Brakes on new party rumors in CHP: 'CHP first' message

CHP's elected Chairman Özgür Özel met with his staff at the Turkish Grand National Assembly (TBMM) to evaluate the party's roadmap for the upcoming period. The meeting addressed the strategy to be followed by the elected leadership, provincial visits, the economic agenda, and organizational disputes occurring in some provinces.

While party officials stated that the claims regarding the establishment of a new party do not reflect the truth, they emphasized that the priority in the current process is to exercise legal rights within the CHP to the fullest extent.

According to information obtained, the group meeting that Özgür Özel will hold at the TBMM today will focus primarily on economic problems and developments in foreign policy, as was the case in the period before the nullity decision.

It was stated that Özel will continue his provincial tours, which include visits to bazaars, markets, and coffeehouses, as he has been doing recently.

"APPOINTMENTS ARE AIMED AT DIVIDING THE CHP"

According to the report by Sarp Sağkal from the Cumhuriyet newspaper, the tension between those supporting the nullity administration and party members supporting the elected leadership in some provinces, especially in İzmir, was also among the agenda items of the meeting.

Evaluating the issue, party officials argued that the dismissal of provincial chairmen was unlawful.

The officials made the following statements:

"The dismissal of the provincial chairmen was unlawful. What is the nullity administration citing as a justification for the dismissals? If they are defending their arrival via a court decision, every province has already held its own congress and elected its administration. There is no court decision regarding these either. They are all people elected by party members. Now, this will is being ignored. An appointment is being made. These appointments are aimed at dividing the CHP. If you think you have support from the party base, you immediately convene the provincial congress and nominate your candidate. But they cannot do this."

"CHP FIRST" RESPONSE TO NEW PARTY DISCUSSIONS

Claims that steps would be taken to establish a new party within this week were also evaluated at the meeting.

Stating that they have no such agenda until the end of July, the officials expressed that most of the discussions about a new party do not reflect the truth.

The following statements were included in the explanations:

"If there is an announcement, you will hear it from our chairman or our group deputy chairmen. What we always say is, 'CHP first.' We have not discussed a party name. Our priority right now is to use our legal rights to the end. Our chairman also tells every party member he sees, 'Do not leave the CHP, do not resign. Seek your rights here to the end.' There is an occupation situation in the CHP, but we must fight against it to the end."

COURT OF CASSATION DECISION TO BE AWAITED UNTIL THE END OF JULY

It was stated that the elected leadership expects a decision from the Court of Cassation regarding the convention lawsuit by the end of July, when the judicial recess begins.

It was also conveyed that efforts to take the party to a convention will continue during the same process.

The party's elected spokesperson, Zeynel Emre, made statements regarding the agenda after the meeting.

Emre announced that they would apply to the court regarding the process concerning the signatures given by delegates within the scope of the extraordinary convention request and the objections that the Party Assembly (PM) has fallen due to the resignations in the Party Assembly.

It was stated that the applications in question are expected to be made within this week.

REACTION TO KILIÇDAROĞLU'S CONVENTION STATEMENT

Evaluating Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's statements that the ordinary convention could be held within 4-5 months, Zeynel Emre made the following statements:

"This statement is to gain time. It plays into the hands of this government. If there are four or five months, the CHP will be talked about regardless. It is exactly the picture Mr. Tayyip wants. A picture that very clearly shows the cooperation in between."

RESPONSE TO IMMUNITY DISCUSSIONS

Touching upon the discussions that the immunities of the deputies whose expulsion is requested will be lifted, Emre made the following assessment:

"On the day those friends were referred to discipline, it was said, 'These friends will be tried soon.' It is not that their immunities will be lifted. How do you know their immunities will be lifted? Who said so? They are very sure."

GÖKHAN GÜNAYDIN WILL CONTINUE HIS DUTY

Zeynel Emre also announced that Gökhan Günaydın, who was referred to discipline and whose precautionary decision regarding his membership was lifted, will continue his duty as CHP Group Deputy Chairman.
