BREAKING NEWS... 3 arrested mayors suspended from duty: Trustee appointed to Şişli!

The Ministry of Interior has announced its decision regarding three prominent mayors in Istanbul. Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, and Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan have been temporarily suspended from their duties by the Ministry of Interior within the scope of ongoing investigations.

The statement indicated that the decisions were taken as a "temporary measure" in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution and Article 47 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.

4 SEPARATE CHARGES AGAINST İMAMOĞLU

An arrest warrant had been issued for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu by the Istanbul 10th Criminal Court of Peace on March 23, 2025, in accordance with the decision numbered 2025/347.

The charges brought against İmamoğlu are as follows:

Recording personal data unlawfully,

Taking bribes,

Rigging tenders of public institutions or organizations,

Establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes.

While the details of the investigation have not been shared with the public, the Ministry of Interior announced that İmamoğlu has been temporarily suspended from his duties.

BEYLİKDÜZÜ MAYOR ALSO ARRESTED

Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık was also suspended from his duties by the decision of the Istanbul 6th Criminal Court of Peace dated March 23, 2025, and numbered 2025/579.

Charges against Çalık:

Extortion (using influence for personal gain),

Being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing crimes.

Like İmamoğlu, Çalık was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior in accordance with Article 127 of the Constitution.

TRUSTEE TO ŞİŞLİ

Another official removed from office was Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan. In its statement, the Ministry of Interior announced that a trustee has been appointed to the Şişli Municipality.

The statement from the Ministry of Interior specified that Şişli Mayor Resul Emrah Şahan has been removed from his post and that Şişli District Governor Cevdet Ertürkmen has been appointed as the trustee in his place.
