Breaking News... Bahçeli issues scathing statement following attack on Turkish flag: Are ties with DEM Party breaking?
The removal of the Turkish flag by individuals alleged to be YPG supporters on the Nusaybin-Qamishli border line has sparked a major reaction. MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli described the incident as the "most severe of all provocations to date" and stated that the DEM Party is responsible for the event.
Tensions have risen in the region after a group, identified as YPG supporters, removed the Turkish flag on the Nusaybin-Qamishli border line yesterday.
The intervention against the flag by individuals who attempted to force open the closed border gate in the Nusaybin district of Mardin and cross through it has caused widespread public outcry.
BAHÇELİ: THE MOST SEVERE PROVOCATION
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli issued a written statement regarding the incident. Stating that the attack was one of the most severe provocations encountered to date, Bahçeli used the following expressions:
“The aggressive attack on the Turkish flag by supporters of the separatist organization, who attempted to force open the closed border gate in the Nusaybin district of Mardin and cross through it, stands before us as the most severe of all provocations experienced to date.”
“THEY MUST BE PUNISHED IN THE SEVEREST WAY”
Emphasizing the meaning of the Turkish flag, Bahçeli stated that those responsible must be identified and punished. The statement included the following words:
“The Turkish flag is the emblem of our independence, the shroud of our martyrs, and the symbol of our national unity and solidarity. Whoever is involved—not only in harassing our flag but also in mentoring, planning, and executing this—must be punished in the severest way, and their connections with intelligence services must be investigated and disclosed.”
Bahçeli's statement included the following remarks:
“As steps toward a 'Terror-Free Turkey' and a 'Terror-Free Region' gain momentum, and as the belt of peace and tranquility strengthens, the provocations of the front of hostility and malice, and of circles with tainted origins and characters, are escalating to dangerous levels. Various hostile centers, including some familiar countries, which use terrorism and the treacherous ambitions of terrorist organizations as political and strategic tools and direct them accordingly, are highly disturbed by the security and stability pursuits of both Turkey and regional states. A dark mind, which carries out a struggle for hegemony on the Anatolian geography, the Middle East, and Africa accompanied by scenarios of oppression, and which feeds and incites sub-state organizations, groups, formations, and separatist terror hubs inspired by this, is planning for a constantly expanding vortex of chaos and crisis.
It is clear that the cruel project associated with the execution and supply of the 'Terror-Free Turkey' goal will be torn up and discarded, and the poisonous sources producing discord and corruption will be dried up. The aggressive attack on the Turkish flag by supporters of the separatist organization, who tried to force open the closed border gate in the Nusaybin district of Mardin and cross through it, stands before us as the most severe of all provocations experienced to date. It is clear that the DEM Party, which held its group meeting in Nusaybin, and the co-chairs who spoke in this context, are primarily responsible for the lowering of the Turkish flag.
It is a fact that the tension in this environment of provocation has been further increased by the reckless speech of DEM Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, which lacked attention, seriousness, gravity, courtesy, dignity, belonging, responsibility, maturity, and intellectual and conscientious sensitivity. The developments are worrying for our nation and our country. In these days when a Terror-Free Turkey is being realized step by step, the intensification of problems regarding language, tone, and mentality unfortunately keeps the tension alive and disrupts hopes.
The DEM Party must make a decision: Is it with the founding leader of the PKK or against him? Will it stand in the shadow of terror, or will it serve a future without terror? Will it side with weapons and violence, or will it remain committed to the virtue of politics and democracy? Will it continue to harm our national unity and integrity by inciting our Kurdish brothers with baseless, unfounded, and false claims, or will it be honored with the dignity and pride of being a party of Turkey that embraces our entire nation?
To smear the Syrian Arab Republic's struggle for internal stability and its determination to preserve its political and territorial integrity with a racist and fascist understanding is, in a word, thoughtlessness and malice. The DEM Party must immediately stop agitating our Kurdish brothers, carrying water to the mill of Zionism, and stirring the embers like a pair of tongs. On the Nusaybin-Qamishli border line, a Zionist-imperialist plot has been put into action, and our red flag has been dishonorably lowered.
No one should doubt the existence of a closed-circuit intelligence operation in the background of this. The Turkish flag is the emblem of our independence, the shroud of our martyrs, and the symbol of our national unity and solidarity. Whoever is involved—not only in harassing our flag but also in mentoring, planning, and executing this—must be punished in the severest way, and their connections with intelligence services must be investigated and disclosed. There is no room for joking or taking this matter lightly. The Turkish flag is the Turkish nation; it is the sign of the sovereignty of the Republic of Turkey.
Everyone must come to their senses. Destroying patience and nerves will not gain anyone anything; on the contrary, the hand extended may eventually be replaced by a clenched fist. The journey of peace and tranquility must continue without compromising on a Terror-Free Turkey, while showing extreme attention and vigilance against provocations.
However, it must be known by everyone that those who aspire to play with our national honor and dignity by hiding behind the excuse of a 'Terror-Free Turkey,' and those who sniff the air to open our national and spiritual values to debate, will be met with resistance in a spirit of relentless struggle. I condemn and curse with all aspects of my being the dirty hands reaching for our red flag with the crescent and star, the vile ambitions, and the primitive and unprincipled terror-lovers. The SDG/YPG is a terrorist organization and will not be able to represent our Kurdish brothers. In the final analysis, the east of the Euphrates, just like the west, must be completely cleared of terror and bloody calculations. That day is today."
