Breaking News... Ban in the heart of Istanbul: Demonstrations and marches halted in 6 districts
The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced that all protests, marches, rallies, and similar activities in Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli are prohibited until 23:59 on September 10. The ban also includes hanging banners, setting up stands, and conducting signature campaigns.
The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced a broad ban covering six of the city's busiest districts. In the announcement made by the Governor's Office, it was stated that the ban, which began as of 20:00 on September 7 in Beşiktaş, Beyoğlu, Eyüpsultan, Kağıthane, Sarıyer, and Şişli, will remain in effect until 23:59 on September 10.
WHICH ACTIVITIES ARE PROHIBITED?
According to the Governor's Office statement, the ban covers not only rallies and marches but also;
Press statements,
Open-air meetings,
Setting up tents, opening stands, sit-in protests,
Signature campaigns, memorial ceremonies,
Distributing flyers, and hanging banners and posters.
The statement emphasized that the decision was taken under Article 11, paragraphs (a) and (c) of the Provincial Administration Law No. 5442, and Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911.
3-DAY COMPREHENSIVE BAN
According to the announcement by the Governor's Office, the ban began at 20:00 on Sunday, September 7, 2025, and will end at 23:59 on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
