Breaking News... Convention button pressed in CHP: Critical statement from Müslim Sarı

The management and disciplinary discussions that have been taking place within the Republican People's Party (CHP) in recent days have moved to a new stage.

Following the CHP Headquarters' initiation of disciplinary proceedings against 9 deputies with a request for expulsion, it was reported that CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel and 28 Party Assembly members on his team decided to resign from their posts.

Following the decision, the number of members in the 57-member CHP Party Assembly dropped to 29.

NAMES WHO RESIGNED FROM THE PARTY ASSEMBLY

The names who resigned from their Party Assembly memberships are as follows:

Sevgi Kılıç, Selin Sayek Böke, Erbil Aydınlık, Ednan Arslan, Zeynel Emre, Yunus Emre, Gökçe Gökçen, Özgür Karabat, Ulaş Karasu, Aylin Nazlıaka, Hakkı Süha Okay, Sezgin Tanrıkulu, Gamze Taşcıer, Yüksel Taşkın, Bülent Tezcan, Seyit Torun, Pınar Uzun Okakın, Aylin Yaman, Emre Yılmaz, Gökhan Zeybek, Hüseyin Yaşar, Ayşe Eser Danışoğlu, Umut Akdoğan, Veli Ağbaba, Fethi Açıkel, Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, Aysu Bankoğlu, and Yaşar Seyman.

It was stated that Yaşar Seyman informed that he would attend the meeting and announce his resignation there.

FIRST STATEMENT FROM MÜSLİM SARI

Following the resignations, CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı made statements.

Stating that the Party Assembly's work will continue, Sarı said, "We will hold our Party Assembly meeting. We will continue our work under all circumstances."

It was noted that Sarı is expected to make a comprehensive statement at the CHP Headquarters at 16.00 today.

CHP member Berhan Şimşek also made evaluations regarding the developments.

Drawing attention to the ongoing legal process, Şimşek said, "There is an ongoing process. Not because of the injunction, but because of the Court of Cassation; since the case has not concluded, we cannot hold neighborhood, district, provincial, or convention elections. Because it is an extraordinary process, the PA continues even if only 5 people remain. They are looking at this incorrectly. On the other hand, there are decisions taken by the MYK (Central Executive Board)."

PARTY ASSEMBLY CONVENED

The CHP Party Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu.

The information that the meeting, which started at 13.10, was being held was announced through a post on CHP's official social media accounts.

The latest developments within the party and the roadmap to be followed are expected to be discussed at the meeting.

CONVENTION PROVISION OF THE BYLAWS BROUGHT TO THE AGENDA

Following the resignations, the provisions in the CHP Bylaws regarding the Party Assembly were brought back to the agenda.

According to Article 24/3 of the Party Bylaws, if the number of Party Assembly members falls below two-thirds of the total number of members, the convention process must be initiated.

The article in question contains the following provision:

"Vacant memberships in the Party Assembly are filled by substitute members in order. After all substitute members are called to the Party Assembly, if the number of members falls below two-thirds (2/3) of the total number of members, the Chairman calls the convention to meet within forty-five (45) days to hold an election for the Party Assembly."

Evaluations regarding the current status of the Party Assembly and how the bylaws provisions will be applied are expected to continue following the resignations.

9 DEPUTIES HAD BEEN REFERRED TO THE DISCIPLINARY BOARD

CHP Spokesperson Müslim Sarı had announced in a statement the day before that 9 deputies had been referred to the disciplinary process.

Sarı had stated, "Our 9 friends have been referred to the High Disciplinary Board (YDK) to be subject to the penalty of permanent expulsion with precautionary measures, within the framework of the relevant articles of our party bylaws."

Accordingly, Ensar Aytekin, Ali Mahir Başarır, Gökhan Günaydın, Nurhayat Altaca Kayışoğlu, Özgür Karabat, Umut Akdoğan, Veli Ağbaba, Turan Taşkın Özer, and Burhanettin Bulut were referred to the High Disciplinary Board with a request for permanent expulsion with precautionary measures.

Sarı also stated that the evaluation regarding Özgür Özel would be handled in a later process.

SÜLEYMAN BÜLBÜL'S EMPHASIS ON BYLAWS

CHP Aydın Deputy Süleyman Bülbül also emphasized the party bylaws in his statement to journalists in Parliament.

Stating that the party bylaws are the constitution of the CHP, Bülbül argued that the decisions to be taken within the party must be in accordance with the provisions of the bylaws.

Bülbül said, "You will not implement the extraordinary convention article of the bylaws, and then you will come out and talk about purification. Purification happens within the law. It is not leaving your fellow travelers as captives in prison. Purification is resisting together with them."

Speaking about the allegations that some deputies would move to a newly established political party, Bülbül said, "We are CHP members. We have roots based on the Kuvayı Milliye (National Forces) and coming from the CHP party. As our 2nd President İsmet İnönü said, 'A new world is established, and Turkey takes its place.' We will comply with whatever decision our elected chairman Özgür Özel and our headquarters make."
