Breaking News... Flash statement from Bahçeli following TRNC elections: 'The TRNC parliament must convene and decide to join Turkey'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli made harsh criticisms in a statement following the presidential elections held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), noting that voter turnout was very low. Bahçeli said, "The results of the election held in the TRNC were realized with very low participation. The fate of the Turkish Cypriots is in a position where it cannot be represented by this level of participation."

CTP LEADER ERHÜRMAN WINS

In the election held to choose the new president who will serve for a 5-year term in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Republican Turkish Party (CTP) Chairman Tufan Erhürman won the election by receiving 62.80 percent of the votes. Incumbent President Ersin Tatar remained behind, receiving 35.77 percent of the votes.

EMPHASIS ON CLOSE COOPERATION WITH TURKEY

Making a statement after the election results, Erhürman emphasized impartiality, saying, "As of this moment, I am not the Chairman of the Republican Turkish Party; I promise to be the president of all my citizens as of this moment." Erhürman used the expressions, "Our brotherhood has won, our brotherhood has not been broken in any way. We said we would not be divided, and we were not divided." Furthermore, stating that he would be in close cooperation with the Republic of Turkey in foreign policy, he said, "Let no one have any doubt about this."

HARSH REACTION FROM BAHÇELİ

MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli reacted harshly after Ersin Tatar, the candidate supported by the People's Alliance, failed to be elected. Bahçeli said that the election results would not provide sufficient representation for the future of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and that the election process caused disappointment for the Turkish Cypriots.

ELECTION REPRESENTATION IS INSUFFICIENT, THE TRNC PARLIAMENT MUST CONVENE!

Stating that the election results cannot be accepted, Bahçeli expressed that the TRNC parliament must convene urgently to review this situation. Bahçeli said, "The TRNC parliament cannot accept the election results and must immediately take the decision to join the Republic of Turkey," stating that this step to be taken for the future of the Turkish nation carries great importance.

Bahçeli's statement is as follows:

"The results of the election held in the TRNC were realized with very low participation. The fate of the Turkish Cypriots is in a position where it cannot be represented by this level of participation. Even if the election result has been announced by the election board, the TRNC parliament must convene urgently, declare that the election results and a return to a federation cannot be accepted, and must take the decision to join the Republic of Turkey."
