Breaking News: Mansur Yavaş comments on Bahçeli's call regarding Öcalan

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş made statements regarding the current agenda.

Yavaş spoke as follows regarding the call made by Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli for Abdullah Öcalan, the leader of the terrorist organization PKK, to 'come and speak in Parliament':

"There are statements that people cannot fathom or are not accustomed to. I do not agree with such statements.

Because the Republic of Turkey is a great state. If we are a state of law, everything done must be in accordance with the law.

If the citizens of the Republic of Turkey have elected deputies who have a plan on this matter, it should be discussed in Parliament. This is not enough either. Some things need to be asked to the public as well. Society has suffered greatly on this issue.

I think the thing that is seen as missing is this: If there were no will to live together, this society would have already fallen apart.

If there is such a plan, it must be both conveyed to the public and shared with everyone who has a group in the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey). I am speaking as a citizen on these matters; if there is a project being prepared behind closed doors and we are being made a tool for it, we are against it.

Neither the changing of our borders nor the changing of our unitary structure can ever be allowed. It is not possible for anyone to make a decision on this matter on their own. The ones who will make the decision are the Turkish Nation and their representatives, the members of parliament.

It is contrary to the legal system in Turkey to engage with someone who has been accepted as a terrorist leader and leader of a terrorist organization by both Turkish courts and the ECHR, and whose sentence has been upheld.

When such issues are discussed, legitimacy is sought only and exclusively in the TBMM. We will see; something related to this will come to the TBMM in the coming days.

In the process that has been ongoing from the beginning, the fact that the first 4 articles of our constitution have been made a subject of discussion in any way, by saying positive or negative things, already showed that these days would come.

But despite such bloody terrorist acts, I have not seen the slightest deficiency in the Turkish Nation's neighborly relations, workplace relations, and the resulting will to live together.

Those who see a deficiency in themselves are the extensions of the terrorist organization.

There is neither a demand for a constitutional amendment in society nor any discomfort regarding these issues.

There is no need for new adventures. If there is something, it should come to the TBMM, and a decision should be made there, and then it should be decided by asking the Turkish Nation. Other than that, no one has any authority on these matters. Today, the public has given this authority to both the President and Mr. Bahçeli. The Turkish Nation is above everything.

Including myself, the President, and the members of parliament are all civil servants who receive their salaries from taxes collected from the public.

No one has the right to impose anything on Turkey.

The final word belongs to the Turkish Nation."
