Breaking News... Meral Akşener addresses resignations! 'It has become a duty to explain some things'

IYI Party Chair Meral Akşener made significant statements at a consultation meeting held in Şile, Istanbul.

Criticizing the deputies who resigned from her party, Akşener addressed the fact that those who left cited the HDP as a reason, stating, "You had no problem with it when you were being elected as deputies."

"IT IS TRUE THAT ACCOUNTS WERE CHECKED"

Regarding allegations of corruption within the party, Akşener said, "It is true that the accounts of my son and his wife, not mine, were checked unofficially," adding, "Neither I nor my family have any business dealings with municipalities. If they can prove it, I will quit politics."

Speaking about the resignations in her party, Akşener noted that 8 people had resigned and said:

“8 of our deputy friends left during that process. I have always tried not to say a single word that would hurt the friends who resigned and left. Generally, every friend who left did so in a very interesting way by associating us with the HDP. But the interesting part is this; my friend, I was the one who placed you in the first or second spots, or the third spots which were electable, within the framework of the alliance we made with the CHP in 2018.”

“NOTHING HAPPENED WHILE YOU WERE BEING ELECTED…”

"Did you have no concerns about the HDP while you were being elected as deputies? Nothing happened while you were being elected, then for some reason, the HDP suddenly entered the lives of these friends, and they were very saddened. As if we had some kind of closeness with the HDP..." the IYI Party leader continued:

Instead of accounting to the nation, instead of accounting to the voters they disappointed, every friend who left chose to insult. Despite this, I did not speak about these people. One of these individuals went to the MHP, saying ‘due to necessity’... Three friends went to the AK Party, the other friend did not go anywhere. One of our friends founded a party, and one friend left close to the election.

I still have no idea why that person left, despite the talk about the HDP. In this context, my view on life and politics is to show respect for people's situations and attitudes. Therefore, the other side must also show this respect to you. When I say to us, I mean they must show it to their voters. Each of these matters requires explanation.”

Before I begin my remarks, steps need to be taken today regarding the teachers who have not been appointed in Ankara. Our hearts are with my teacher brothers and sisters in Ankara today. I am calling on Erdoğan; this issue must be prioritized. Teachers are living in poverty.

We aspire to govern this country. We set out on a journey to bring this country to prosperity and relief, without ever debating the first 4 articles of the Constitution.

“THE QUESTIONS WERE VERY HURTFUL”

While watching television last night, I saw something on Sözcü TV. The questions were very hurtful. 8 people resigned from our party at different intervals. It seems it has become a duty to explain some things.

I have never said a single word that would hurt our friends who resigned and left. We never engaged in fighting.

In the 2023 elections, it was essential to win the election to get rid of this freak system. We did our best for Turkey to bid farewell to this one-man system. Our party was founded on democracy. Just like yesterday, there will be resignations again. What some have done is political fraud.

RESPONSE TO 'MISSING MONEY' ALLEGATION

It was reported unofficially that the accounts of my son and his wife, not mine, were checked. This is accurate information. We have applied to the relevant bank, and now that unofficial information will become official. Let me give a final answer to yesterday's questions here: neither I, nor my son, nor my daughter-in-law, nor my nephews, nor my childhood friends have any connection, affiliation, business, or dealings with any municipality in this country, neither AK Party municipalities nor CHP municipalities. Whoever cannot prove this is a dishonorable person. If it is proven, I will quit politics entirely.

I am calling out to the mayors here; since I am not involved in these matters, if there are those in our party who are doing business in this sense, are these within the knowledge of the mayors? Since I have answered the questions asked with a smile on Sözcü, Halk TV, and TELE1 regarding myself, I now demand that they ask the relevant mayors.

'NEBİ HATİPOĞLU' STATEMENT

I had asked the deputy who resigned and joined the AK Party, "Why did you come to us?" Nebi Hatipoğlu joined the AK Party 4 days later. I wonder if Erdoğan does not see these?

"I AM GOING TO SACRIFICE AN ANIMAL"

No party leader says 'Good riddance' to friends who leave. I was saddened for each of our friends who left, but God has protected us. Now I am going to go and sacrifice an animal.

The IYI Party also opposed those who did not want to win the presidency. The IYI Party opposed the polarization of society. The IYI Party stood up for Sinan Ateş, and this bothered everyone.

“I WAS ACCUSED OF BEING A FETÖ MEMBER FOR 7 YEARS”

Our nation picked up the state from the streets. I was accused of being a FETÖ member for 7 years. When I looked at the file, I also learned about my own extended family. After 7 years, nothing was found regarding me and FETÖ. I don't even have a statement on this matter. This is the point law has reached in Turkey. Those who polarized Turkey, the slanders took place in front of the Turkish public.”
