Breaking News... Özgür Çelik announces: Istanbul Governor Davut Gül cannot be reached!
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made statements regarding the police blockade at the party building. Stating that they have been unable to reach Istanbul Governor Davut Gül, Çelik said, "He is neither answering our calls nor returning them. Meanwhile, the police blockade has tightened further, advancing into the garden of our party building."
CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik has been removed from his post, and Gürsel Tekin has been appointed as a trustee in his place.
Following the announcement that Gürsel Tekin would go to the party building on Monday, September 8, CHP members began gathering at the Istanbul Provincial Headquarters yesterday evening. While the Governor's Office issued a protest ban in 6 districts of Istanbul, the CHP Istanbul Provincial Headquarters was placed under a police blockade.
As tensions in the area continued to rise following the announcement that Gürsel Tekin would arrive at the party building between 12:30 and 13:00, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made a statement regarding the events.
Çelik stated that the police blockade around the party building was tightening and had reached the building's garden. He expressed that this situation also prevents approximately 3 thousand people living in the complex where the party is located from accessing their homes.
Çelik said, "This situation is constantly leading to tension and friction. Moreover, approximately 3 thousand people living in the complex where our party is located are also being prevented from accessing their own homes. This blockade, which has been causing constant tension since last night, is of no benefit to anyone. There is no explanation for surrounding the leading party of Turkey and preventing our party members from entering their own party building. This unlawful and malicious siege must be abandoned immediately. This tyranny, which is doomed to be defeated in the end, must come to an end."
Furthermore, stating that they could not reach the Istanbul Governor, Çelik emphasized that their efforts to establish communication had been fruitless, saying, "He is neither answering our calls nor returning them."
