Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was detained yesterday evening and taken to the Istanbul Police Department. It was stated that no information was provided to Özdağ's lawyers or deputies and that his file had been expanded with an additional charge. Meanwhile, it has been reported that Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ has been transferred to the courthouse.
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ was detained by police at a restaurant in Ankara around 7:30 PM yesterday evening.
CHARGE EXPANDED
Following a medical check-up, Özdağ was transferred to the Istanbul Police Department, where it was stated that his file had been expanded with an additional charge, raising concerns about a potential arrest.
From the moment of his detention, no information was provided to Özdağ's lawyers or deputies. This development created concerns that Özdağ might be arrested. While Özdağ was being transferred to the courthouse at 1:00 PM, he was prevented from meeting with his lawyers and deputies.
Victory Party Chief Advisor to the Chairman Çınar Coşkunserçe stated that they arrived in Istanbul after an 8-hour journey, noting that the detention period did not include the travel time. While it was reported that Özdağ entered the police station around 12:40 AM, Coşkunserçe said, "Özdağ was not placed in a holding cell; he was kept in a private room. However, the fact that he was not allowed to meet with his lawyers or deputies increased our concerns. We were told he would be brought to the courthouse at 9:00 AM today, but that did not happen. Even our lawyers were not given any information regarding when he would be brought."
BEING BROUGHT TO THE COURTHOUSE
Meanwhile, it was stated that Victory Party leader Ümit Özdağ has been set on the road to be brought to the Çağlayan Courthouse.
TRANSFERRED TO THE COURTHOUSE
Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who was detained on allegations of "insulting the President" and "inciting the public to hatred and enmity," has been transferred to the courthouse.
WHAT HAPPENED
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had announced that an investigation had been launched into Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ due to statements he made regarding the President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Özdağ was detained while dining in Ankara and brought to Istanbul under police escort.
The investigation, launched ex officio by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, was based on a speech Özdağ gave in Antalya. In his speech at the closing of his party's Provincial Chairmen Consultation Meeting in Antalya, Ümit Özdağ had criticized President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
'ERDOĞAN HAS CAUSED MORE HARM THAN THE CRUSADES'
Recalling that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said in his speech at the AKP Mersin Provincial Congress, "Our country's 80 years have been marked by the pains of the transition from the Ottoman Empire, which was under the burden of World War I with the fatigue of centuries, to the Republic. We have witnessed the heavy costs of the destructive and oppressive policies of single-party fascism towards the nation's faith, history, and culture," Ümit Özdağ had continued as follows:
"The Turkish nation has maintained its sovereignty in Anatolia for a thousand years. We have been subjected to many Crusades over the course of a thousand years. The First Crusade began in 1095. The last Crusade took place between 1914 and 1922. We defeated the last Great Crusade in Anatolia under the leadership of Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and buried the Crusader armies in the cold waters of the Mediterranean. The Republic of Turkey became a new Ergenekon for the Turkish nation, and in this new Ergenekon, our noble nation grew stronger, armed itself, built its industry, overcame the diseases left behind by the period of collapse, then took Hatay, and then established a state in Cyprus. Rest assured that no Crusade that has taken place in the last thousand years has caused as much harm to the Turkish nation and the Turkish state as Erdoğan and the AKP have. No Crusade has been able to infiltrate spies into the Turkish State."
HE HANDED THE STATE OVER TO FETÖ
Özdağ had argued that President Erdoğan "let the spy FETÖ into the Turkish state, handed the Turkish state over to FETÖ, and had FETÖ establish a parallel state," and used the following expressions:
"No Crusade has been able to make the Turkish nation Deist, Atheist, or Christian. During the Erdoğan era, large segments of the Turkish nation began to grow cold toward their religion because of those who deceive in the name of God, and during the Erdoğan era, the rate of deists and atheists exceeded 16 percent. Erdoğan should know that the cadres who founded the Republic did not attack the faith, history, and culture of the Turkish nation; on the contrary, Atatürk and his comrades-in-arms protected and developed the faith, history, and culture of the Turkish nation. It is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan himself who attacks the faith, culture, and history of the Turkish nation and learns history from a madman in a fez."
Stating that President Erdoğan distorts history and harms the history of the Turkish nation, Ümit Özdağ had noted the following:
"Erdoğan is harming the faith of the Turkish nation by distributing the Turkish nation's state among sects and communities and by making those who commit shirk partners in the state; he is destroying the culture of the Turkish nation by letting millions of refugees and illegal immigrants into Anatolia.
What is happening is actually AKP fascism. As the Victory Party, we will not normalize with this fascism like the main opposition. We will fight and we will win. Victory will belong to the Turkish state and the Turkish nation."
