Call from AKP following the New Constitution Workshop

The fourth in a series of workshops organized by the AKP's Department of Political and Legal Affairs was held at the party headquarters with the participation of expert academics, chaired by Deputy Chairman Yazıcı.

A written statement regarding the workshop was issued by the AK Party.

Accordingly, the workshop titled "Legislative and Executive Organs in the New Constitution" was held yesterday with the participation of academics specializing in constitutional law, general public law, political science, and public administration.

The workshop addressed the following topics: "How should the legislative and executive organs be regulated in the new constitution? How should the establishment, duties, and powers of the legislative and executive organs be determined? How should the mutual relations between the legislative and executive organs be regulated? And what are your assessments regarding the nearly 7-year practice of the Presidential Government System?"

THREE WORKSHOPS WERE HELD PREVIOUSLY

In the first workshop of the AKP held on October 9, 2024, answers were sought to the questions of "Why does Turkey need a new constitution?" and "What should be the drafting method for a new constitution based on participation and consensus?" with the participation of academics from various fields.

In the second workshop on November 28, 2024, the questions of "What are the expectations of civil society and professional organizations from the new constitution?" and "How should civil society participate in the drafting of the new constitution?" were evaluated with the participation of the presidents and representatives of Turkey's broadest-based professional organizations and confederations.

In the third workshop on January 24, 2025, the topic of "Fundamental rights and freedoms in the new constitution" was discussed with the participation of experts in the field.

The statement included the expression: "As the AK Party Department of Political and Legal Affairs, we will continue this series of workshops in the coming period, and we will continue to listen to the expectations regarding the new constitution by coming together with different segments of society and experts."

The statement also included the assessments of AKP Deputy Chairman Hayati Yazıcı regarding the workshop.

Yazıcı stated, "In the coming period, we are carrying out our work to provide our country with a social contract whose architect is the 'nation'. Our greatest wish is for our country to have a constitution that is based on the national will, democratic, libertarian, and strengthens the rule of law."

Calling on political parties, Yazıcı noted the following:

"Let us crown the Century of Turkey with a new, civil, and democratic constitution. In this direction, the duty of all political parties represented under the roof of the TBMM (Grand National Assembly of Turkey) is to place the issue of a new and civil constitution above daily political considerations. We are carrying out our work to provide our nation and our country with a new constitution with the support of our political parties on the basis of social consensus. Our greatest desire is to create a constitution in which all segments of society can find themselves. As the AK Party, we propose that the constitution be drafted through a method that begins with the people and ends with the people. At the end of our previous three workshops, the opinions and suggestions of the valuable participants were compiled into a report and presented to our Chairman and President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We will also prepare a report in light of the evaluations of our valuable professors who contributed to our fourth workshop and present it to our President."
