Call from President Erdoğan to CHP Chairman Özel: 'Our door is open'

Chatting with members of the press after the Cabinet meeting, Erdoğan responded to questions asked by journalists.

AKP Chairman and President Erdoğan made statements on many important issues, from Putin's visit to a meeting with CHP leader Özel, and from diplomatic traffic to teacher appointments. 

DIPLOMATIC TRAFFIC

For instance, the President of Tanzania will come to Turkey. Tanzania is an important country in Africa. Therefore, their visit to Turkey is very, very important. The steps we will take with them hold significant opportunities in terms of investments as well as diplomatic issues.

BAGHDAD VISIT

The Iraqi side, in particular, attaches great importance to this visit of ours. With this visit, we will place our relations as Turkey and Iraq on a different foundation. One of the most important agenda items of our visit is the water issue. They have had some requests from us regarding water, and we are working on these issues.

We will strive to resolve this issue with them. They also want us to resolve this matter. We will take our steps in this direction.

There are also issues of natural gas and oil flow to Turkey; we will strive to address those as well. Following our Baghdad visit, we may also pay a visit to Erbil on our return, and we may hold talks with the authorities there. Our colleagues are continuing their work on this matter.

PUTIN'S VISIT

We hold frequent phone calls with Mr. Putin. A date for his visit to Turkey has not yet been finalized. I believe this will also be clarified as soon as possible.

MEETING WITH CHP CHAIRMAN ÖZGÜR ÖZEL

Our door is open to the CHP Chairman, Mr. Özel. We have many topics to address; we will sit down and talk as soon as they come for a visit.

TEACHER APPOINTMENTS

Teacher appointments will not take too long; we will make a certain number of appointments soon. However, it would not be right to give a figure now; our Minister of National Education is working on the matter.
