Call to the government from Dilek İmamoğlu: 'Send observers to the hearings'

Dilek İmamoğlu, wife of imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu, made statements on various issues ranging from early elections to the legal process during a meeting organized by the Family Solidarity Network at Saraçhane Park. İmamoğlu called on the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party to send observers to the İBB hearings. She further stated that all party leaders should watch the defense presented by Ekrem İmamoğlu and his lawyers.

CONDEMNED THE INJUSTICES

In her statement regarding the İBB hearings, Dilek İmamoğlu said, "Let them report the hearings to you at the end of the day. Let all party leaders watch the defense of Ekrem İmamoğlu and his lawyers in court." Furthermore, İmamoğlu reacted sharply to the government, saying, "A presidential candidate elected with 25.5 million votes has been held captive for a year. If he is being declared a hardened criminal, then come to the court, come to the hearing rooms."

REACTION TO PRETRIAL DETENTION

Stating that pretrial detention causes difficulties for individuals and their families, Dilek İmamoğlu emphasized that the judicial process must comply with the principles of law. "Trial without detention should be the rule, and detention should be the exception," İmamoğlu said, pointing out that the uncertainties lasting for a year have been a major source of strain for families.

ATTENTION DRAWN TO THE WOUNDS OF FAMILIES

İmamoğlu also touched upon the difficulties faced by the relatives of those detained. Noting that Ramazan Gülten’s daughter Maya learned to say "daddy" for the first time in the courtroom, she said, "A father not being able to be with his child during their most precious moments, and learning that the child said 'daddy' for the first time, deeply shook us all." She also shared that Sırrı Küçük could not see his daughter's first report card and had to tell her he was at a "police school" in Silivri.

Congratulating everyone on the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, Dilek İmamoğlu wished for the holiday to bring justice, democracy, and abundance, adding, "May it bring peace to the world." Reminding of the uncertainty experienced by families separated from their loved ones for a year, İmamoğlu stated that "no family in 21st-century Turkey should be forced to endure such a heavy process."

ADDRESSING MHP AND AKP: "YOU SHOULD SEND OBSERVERS"

Following the TRT call rejected by the MHP and AKP, Dilek İmamoğlu issued a new call to the government: "I am addressing the AKP, MHP, and DEM Party. Send observers to the İBB trials to show your stance. Demonstrate that you are in search of justice. Both observe the defenses and understand what the situation is."

Ekrem İmamoğlu's wife highlighted the difficulties faced by those imprisoned for a year and their families, stating, "Sometimes the longing that is attempted to be squeezed into a few seconds is not accessible for some families. Living through this process for a year is very difficult," and emphasized that support must be provided to all families.
