Call to youth from Ekrem İmamoğlu: 'The time for change has come'
Imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed the youth in a social media post, drawing attention to the decline in Turkey's youth and child population and the country's growing poverty. İmamoğlu emphasized the necessity of getting rid of the current governing mentality.
CHP's imprisoned presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu addressed the youth in a post on Twitter, drawing attention to the economic and demographic problems Turkey is facing.
In his message, İmamoğlu pointed out that Turkey is an aging society and stated that economic difficulties are deepening. Comparing the ratio of children and youth to the population globally with the ratios in Turkey, İmamoğlu shared the following data:
''Dear youth!
Turkey is aging.
Worse, it is aging while rapidly becoming impoverished.
The proportion of children in the world population is 29.3%.
In Turkey, it is 24.8%.
The ratio of our children to the population is falling rapidly.
The proportion of youth in the world population is 15.6%.
In Turkey, this rate is 14.8%.
The ratio of our youth to the population is rapidly decreasing.
The world is in a new era. Professions are undergoing a complete transformation. The role of artificial intelligence in our lives is growing steadily.
The working environment, employment transformation, and the impact of high technology are shaping the future plans of many countries.
However; it is time to get rid of the mentality that steals justice, steals our prosperity, ruins our peace, ignores the ballot box and elections, consumes your energy, ignores your needs, and is collapsed, exhausted, expired, and trapped in the palace!
We need a leap in economy, technology, and development; a strategically strong future plan, and new generation young cadres.''
While İmamoğlu's message particularly underlined technological transformation and changing professions, it was emphasized that the energy and demands of the youth are being ignored by the current administration. The CHP candidate pointed to the importance of youth having more say in the future by saying, "We need a leap in economy, technology, and development; a strategically strong future plan, and new generation young cadres."
