Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay, who has not been released despite the Constitutional Court (AYM) issuing two "rights violation" rulings in his favor, made a statement on his social media account X.

In his post, Atalay stated that "no obstacle placed in his path will prevent him from fulfilling his responsibility to the people of Hatay."

"WHAT IS AT STAKE IS THE FREEDOM OF A MEMBER OF THE TBMM"

Stating that "the Constitutional Court's individual application rulings determine the future of the state of law," Atalay wrote the following:

“Although it was expected that the decisions made by the Constitutional Court would be implemented out of concern for democracy and the rule of law, they were not. However, the Constitutional Court's individual application rulings are decisions that determine the future of fundamental human rights and freedoms, democracy, and the state of law.

Even though the Constitutional Court rulings were issued regarding me, what must be defended is democracy, human rights, the state of law, and the rule of law. What is being discussed is the freedom of a deputy who is a member of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. However, the real issue is being able to defend the citizens' right to vote, to be elected, and to engage in political activity independently or within a political party.

"FOR ME, THE TBMM IS HERE, IT IS THE PRISON"

Our main issue should be democracy and the rule of law. Fulfilling this responsibility under any circumstances is my debt to society. I am not allowed to leave the 20-square-meter cell I am in to take the oath in Parliament or to engage in politics. My work for the people of Hatay is being obstructed. It is necessary to overcome these obstacles. In that case, for me, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey is here; it is this prison, this cell. As I did yesterday, I defend the implementation of the Constitution today as well. I continue and will continue to fight for all of us, especially the people of Hatay, so that the law may prevail.

"WE WILL TAKE UP THE CAUSE OF THOSE WE LOST IN HATAY"

While continuing on our path, we said that we would take up the cause of those we lost in Hatay, that we would work with all our might to rebuild Hatay, which was leveled by the February 6 earthquakes, and that we would fight against those who see human life as a cost item within construction rent and against the mentality that condemns our people to this destruction. The result of arbitrariness is authoritarianism. Our Republic, which has left its 100th year behind, can only be carried further with the rules of a democratic state of law.

"WE WILL NOT TURN BACK FROM OUR PATH"

Our word is our bond. We will not turn back from our path. We are aware of the dangers we face. Our standing side by side and our solidarity will save all our citizens who oppose the arbitrariness and lawlessness of those in power. Therefore, it is time to put aside which court decision will be implemented, when, and how, or whether it will be implemented at all. It is time to continue the struggle and solidarity. I say it once again: the current situation and no obstacle that may be placed in front of me will prevent me from fulfilling my responsibility to the people of Hatay.”
