Charter amendments on the agenda at the CHP convention

The CHP continues its preparations for the convention it will hold at the Ankara Arena Sports Hall under the slogan "Now is the Time for Power." At the convention, which will begin on November 28 with an opening speech by Chairman Özgür Özel, charter amendments and the new party program will be presented to the delegates for a vote. The election for the Chairman will take place on November 29, and the elections for the Party Assembly (PM) and the High Disciplinary Board (YDK) will be held on November 30.

It is planned to add the Presidential Candidate Office to the charter as a temporary article at the convention. Party officials, stating that the CHP advocates for a parliamentary system, express that this office will remain in effect "until the date the party first comes to power." With this change, the shadow cabinet practice currently within the Central Executive Board (MYK) will also continue within the Presidential Candidate Office system.

Changes to the youth quota are also on the agenda. While the current 25 percent youth quota is being maintained, flexibility in age distribution is planned. Party officials state that this change is being made in consideration of the difficulties faced by young people in the 18-25 age range.

PM ELECTIONS AND NEW PARTICIPATIONS

A high number of candidates is expected in the Party Assembly elections. It is emphasized that during this period when the CHP is marching toward power, the PM will serve as the party's showcase. Furthermore, it is being discussed that figures who have joined the CHP from other parties may also take part in the PM. It is noted that names such as Bahadır Erdem from the IYI Party and Serkan Özcan from the Future Party could take on roles in the new PM.

At the convention, 1,385 delegates will cast their votes, and 25 ballot boxes will be set up. Imprisoned PM member Baki Aydöner and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu will not be able to vote. The election for the chairman will be held in a side hall, while the PM elections will take place in the main hall.

Under the leadership of Özgür Özel, it is awaited with curiosity how intra-party balances will be shaped at this convention, where the CHP is expected to take significant steps on the path to power.
