CHP candidate list dispute in Hopa turns into a fistfight

In the incident that took place at Cumhuriyet Square, it is alleged that a group of party members objected to the CHP's Provincial General Assembly membership list.

The argument that broke out following the objection grew quickly and turned into a fight. The moments of the fistfight, which spilled out into the street, were recorded by bystanders on a mobile phone camera. Police and bystanders intervened to prevent further tension.

CHP Hopa District Mayoral Candidate Utku Cihan condemned the events, stating that a verbal and physical attack had been carried out against his party's district organization, provincial general assembly members, and candidates.

Cihan said, “Some people came to Hopa and made threats, and then they carried out a physical attack with punches against our council member candidates. We are trying to conduct an election process in peace and brotherhood in Hopa. We will not allow anyone to provoke us. 

"WE CONDEMN THE ATTACK ON COUNCIL MEMBERS"

Regardless of their views, we will act together to do good things for Hopa. We will not allow anyone to provoke us, as happened here today.

We condemn this attack on the council members. We will do our best to ensure that such incidents do not happen in Hopa from now on. We will quickly initiate legal proceedings regarding the individuals involved. We have the video recordings of this. 

An attack took place here today against both the board members and the council member candidates of the Republican People's Party. This attack was organized. People were called by phone and the attack was carried out in this way.

We will not let this go. We will carry out the upcoming process in peace together. We will not fall for such provocations,” he said.
