CHP chairmanship candidate Özel: We will embark on a brand new path

Ahead of the upcoming Republican People's Party (CHP) congress, CHP chairmanship candidate Özgür Özel visited the Isparta CHP Provincial Organization as part of his provincial visits.

Stating that they worked very hard in the general elections before the congress at the CHP Provincial Headquarters, Özel said, "We all ran, worked, and struggled together so that the founding party of the republic, Atatürk's party, would be in power in its centennial year for the most important election in the history of the republic. Unfortunately, we lost the elections."

''THERE IS A GREAT SENSE OF DISAPPOINTMENT''

Özel said, “This is not an election where we can continue as if nothing happened that any CHP member could accept in their conscience, and that is why there is an emotional detachment occurring after that election, such as this party not remaining in opposition again, not being the second party, and its voters not drifting away. There is a great sense of disappointment, a great sadness. There is a detachment from the party, the ballot box, and politics, and it was necessary to prevent this. We set out on this path with the responsibility of not being able to prevent this government of the Justice and Development Party.”

''TALK TO EVERYONE WHOSE CONSCIENCE YOU TRUST''

Özel's speech is as follows:

“I want to make this call from here, from Isparta. 1,200 of our delegates have been elected all across Turkey. We are natural delegates along with our party assembly members, High Disciplinary Board members, and deputies. But 1,200 delegates were elected and sent by our organization. We are addressing our delegates, each of whom feels the love for the party, the love for Atatürk, and the love for the country in their veins. Two weeks from today, you will set out and come to Ankara. Then you will return. In the Ankara you go to, you will determine the cadres and the chairman who will lead the Republican People's Party in the centennial year of the republic. Our request from all our delegates, our request from them for this country and for this party, is please talk to everyone whose mind and conscience you trust throughout these fifteen days.

''I BELIEVE THEY WILL CARRY THAT WILL TO THE BALLOT BOX''

Talk to everyone whose mind and conscience you trust and say, 'I am going to cast a vote that will determine the future of the Republican People's Party in the centennial year of the republic.' Ask them how I should use this. I believe that all our delegates will hear the voice of the streets, the members, and the organization from all four corners of Turkey and will carry that will to the ballot box.

''OUR RESPECT FOR OUR ESTEEMED CHAIRMAN IS INFINITE''

I think that the most important decision is for the Republican People's Party to embark on a brand new path and find itself again by changing not only its leader but also its management cadres, its charter, its program, and its way of doing politics, with brand new, rejuvenated, dynamic cadres, with very strong reinforcements in the right places, and with an understanding where the organizations look and see themselves, where the Isparta organization looks and says, 'Yes, those who come from this organization are managing the Republican People's Party.' Our respect for our esteemed chairman is infinite,” he said.
