CHP convention investigation: Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu summoned to testify

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has summoned former CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu to testify as a victim as part of an investigation into the party's convention.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office summoned Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who lost his seat as chairman during the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention held on November 5-6, 2023, to testify as a victim as part of the investigation into that convention.

HE WILL NOT GO TO TESTIFY

Speaking to Halk TV, Kılıçdaroğlu's lawyer Celal Çelik stated that Kılıçdaroğlu would not go to testify.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?

In a program he attended on KRT television on February 7, Kılıçdaroğlu was asked about the convention and said that the party administration "needs to make a clear and explicit statement," adding, "If you are not doing so, silence implies consent, which means there is something else going on here. If there is something, the party must absolutely be cleansed of corruption."

When asked if he suspected any irregularities, the former chairman replied, "I have nothing in my hands."

Former CHP Istanbul MP Akif Hamzaçebi also argued on his social media account that those who cannot respond to Erdoğan's claim of a "dubious convention" should not enter the presidential candidacy process, calling on the party administration: "Either reject this claim by challenging it, or do not sit in that seat."

Immediately following these allegations, an investigation was launched into the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention, and claims were made that a trustee would be appointed to the party. The CHP administration repelled this move by holding an extraordinary convention, where Özgür Özel was re-elected chairman with a record number of votes.
