CHP deputy threatens resignation: 'I have no business with a party where Kılıçdaroğlu is chairman'
Ankara deputy Adnan Beker has announced that he will leave the CHP if Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu becomes chairman again.
Following a ruling of 'absolute nullity' by the Ankara 36th Regional Administrative Court, the CHP's 38th Ordinary Congress, held on November 4-5, 2023, has been declared invalid. The court's decision resulted in the revocation of the current administration's and Özgür Özel's chairmanship authorities, while Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was reinstated as chairman.
As activity at the CHP Headquarters has intensified following the ruling, Özgür Özel and his supporters continue their vigil in the building. While it is alleged that Kılıçdaroğlu has taken steps to evacuate the building, all eyes have turned to the reactions within the party and the new roadmap.
Ankara Deputy Adnan Beker made striking statements regarding the crisis that has emerged within the party. Beker, known as a figure coming from nationalist and center-right circles, issued a challenge in his statement to journalist Fatih Altaylı, saying, "Mr. Özgür invited me to this party. I came at his invitation. If Özgür Özel is there, I am there; if Özgür Özel is not there, I am not there."
Beker emphasized that he would not work with Kılıçdaroğlu with the words, "I have no business with a party where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is chairman," while also signaling a potential resignation. In response to a question, he clearly stated, "I am not leaving for now. As long as Özgür Özel is there, I will not leave. Whatever he does, I will do the same. I know his patriotism. I will not leave him alone. Wherever he goes, I go. If he leaves, I leave; if he resigns, I resign. But I will not be by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu's side. If I see that Mr. Özgür cannot return, I will leave and continue my path as an independent."
Stating that his words reflect only his personal views, Beker added, "These are my thoughts. They do not bind anyone else. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion," indicating that his close circle might adopt a different stance.
Touching upon the atmosphere within the party group, Beker stated that at least 80 deputies have given clear support to Özgür Özel and that this figure would not easily change. He also declined to comment on allegations regarding the possibility of a party split or the birth of a new political movement.
Altaylı recounted his meeting with Beker with the following expressions:
'We spoke with Adnan Beker, who joined the CHP later but worked tirelessly for the party, especially in the center-right strongholds where the CHP is weak. Both his closeness to Mansur Yavaş and his involvement in nationalist politics could allow him to look at what is happening from a different perspective.
He had even pulled his own campaign bus in front of the headquarters.
When he picked up the phone, he said, "We have made Mr. Özgür the group chairman, hopefully for the best. Let's see what happens."
He explained his position by saying, "Mr. Özgür invited me to this party. I came at his invitation. If Özgür Özel is there, I am there; if Özgür Özel is not there, I am not there." Then he uttered a further sentence: "I have no business with a party where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is chairman."
The sentence smelled of "resignation."
I asked, "Are you leaving the CHP?"
He said, "I am not leaving for now.
As a precaution so that his words would not bind his close friend Cemal Enginyurt, he said, "These are my thoughts. They do not bind anyone else. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion."
I asked about the atmosphere in the party group.
He said, "At least 80 deputies have taken a very clear stance in favor of Mr. Özgür. This number will not drop."
I asked, "Will there be a split, a new party?"
He said with a laugh, "I don't know about that. I have now pulled the bus to the headquarters and am guarding the headquarters."
As I understand it, Kılıçdaroğlu will be the chairman but will continue to fail to be a leader.
He wasn't one before, and now he never will be.'
