CHP elects its leadership

The 39th Ordinary Congress of the Republican People's Party (CHP) began on Friday, November 28, at the Ankara Arena. While the election for the party chairmanship took place on the first day of the congress, members of the Party Assembly (PM) and the High Disciplinary Committee (YDK) were determined today. CHP leader Özgür Özel was re-elected as chairman by delegate votes.

ÖZGÜR ÖZEL ELECTED CHAIRMAN FOR THE 4TH TIME

Özgür Özel participated in the CHP chairmanship election as the sole candidate. While 1,357 delegates were expected to vote, 1,333 votes were counted as valid. The number of invalid votes was recorded as 24. Özel was elected as the chairman of the CHP by receiving all valid votes. Thus, Özel has been elected as the party chairman for the third time in the last year and the fourth time in the last two years.

PM AND YDK ELECTIONS

On the second day of the congress, elections were held for members of the Party Assembly (PM) and the High Disciplinary Committee (YDK). These elections drew significant interest from the CHP organization, and there was high participation in the hall. Following the elections, the new PM and YDK members were determined. The elections, which the party organization followed with great excitement, continued throughout the day.

ÖZEL CAST HIS VOTE

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel went to ballot box No. 1 at 6:59 PM to cast his vote. Responding to questions from members of the press after the voting process, Özel stated that the congress was an important process in terms of intra-party democracy. Özel said the following:

"We experienced a three-day festival of intra-party democracy. On the first day, we changed our party program, which we had been preparing for a year, and unanimously adopted our party program, in which we describe how we will solve the problems of Turkey and its citizens. Then we made changes to the bylaws. For example, instead of a march to power with 60 people, we increased the number in the Party Assembly to 80. And we changed our bylaws with a few more positive amendments."
