How much does the CHP want the minimum wage to be?

With only a few days left until the minimum wage is determined, citizens have begun to wonder what the minimum wage will be.

Before the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meets, political parties have also started to put forward figures.

Most recently, CHP leader Özgür Özel also provided a figure for the minimum wage. So, what is the CHP proposing for the minimum wage? How much is the minimum wage the CHP wants? Here are all the details....

MINIMUM WAGE STATEMENT FROM CENTRAL BANK GOVERNOR FATİH KARAHAN

It was stated that Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Governor Fatih Karahan, in his meetings with investors in Washington, signaled that they would also take the scale of the minimum wage increase into account while shaping the 2025 monetary policy. In his statement there, Karahan had pointed to 25 percent.

MINIMUM WAGE ACCORDING TO THE MTP

The minimum wage is determined every year based on inflation figures. However, this year there is also a possibility that this figure will be determined according to the Medium-Term Program (MTP).

With the announcement of the September inflation, the Central Bank updated its MTP target. Accordingly, if the ceiling minimum wage is applied according to the minimum wage, the minimum wage will be 24 thousand 58 TL.

WHEN WILL THE MINIMUM WAGE DETERMINATION COMMISSION MEET?

Minister of Labor and Social Security Vedat Işıkhan also touched upon the issue of the minimum wage during his recent participation in the AA Editor's Desk. In his statement, Minister Işıkhan made the following remarks regarding the minimum wage:

"We have a Minimum Wage Determination Commission to determine the minimum wage that will be valid from 2025. We will start this process at the beginning of December. The commission, which includes representatives of workers, employers, and the government, will meet. It will continue its work for a certain period, and then a process will follow where the figure they finalize, which will satisfy both the worker and the employer, will be brought to our agenda and then a decision will be made. Of course, as AK Party governments, we always ensure that our workers and employers obtain maximum benefit in this process, and we continue our efforts in that direction. We will maintain this sensitivity while determining the 2025 minimum wage. While taking this decision, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission determines this wage by taking into account the inflation rate, our economic growth, the needs of our labor market, and the living standards of our citizens. I hope it will be determined at a level that will improve living standards and will not harm the general stability and structure of our economy."

HOW MUCH IS THE CHP'S MINIMUM WAGE PROPOSAL? HOW MUCH MINIMUM WAGE DOES THE CHP WANT?

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel provided a figure for the minimum wage at his party's group meeting.

Özel said, "Our minimum wage demand is 30 thousand TL. We are not part of anything below this figure. The pension should be equal to the minimum wage, and one minimum wage should be deposited for every retiree immediately this month."

Özgür Özel also drew attention to injustice in taxation by stating, "We will take much from those who earn much, little from those who earn little, and we will take no taxes at all from the impoverished citizen."
