CHP leader Özel speaks in Kütahya: 'One person from Trabzon built 10 metro lines in Istanbul'

Accelerating his election campaign 24 days before the local elections, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited Kütahya.

Özel stated that a common political will must be shaped for Kütahya to receive the services it deserves and to reach the level of development it deserves.

Noting that they determined Eyüp Kahveci, whom they nominated for the Kütahya Mayoralty, with the full consensus of the organization, and with great belief and trust, Özel said the following:

'THE CANDIDATE IS RECEIVING GREAT SOCIAL SUPPORT'

“I am coming to Kütahya for the first time as the CHP Chairman. When I came here as the deputy group chairman, we always left with good memories after working hard. In the coming period, we hope that the CHP will reach the power it deserves and needs in Kütahya. For Kütahya to receive the services it deserves and to reach the level of development it deserves, a common political will must be shaped, and this is possible through positive competition. We believe it is very important for the CHP, as the main opposition party, to increase its strength, to provide suggestions that will contribute not only to problems but also to solutions, and to increase its interest in the city. One of the important milestones of this process is undoubtedly the local elections.

Kütahya was a city where we could not achieve the success we hoped for in the previous local elections. Since there is no metropolitan municipality in Kütahya, it is necessary to address the situations of the central district municipality and the districts separately. However, a process is being experienced in the central district municipality where our friend from the MHP, who had previously served as a member of parliament and was later elected mayor with significant support, has lost interest in the city and politics for a certain period—sometimes known as metal fatigue in politics—has not been able to find opportunities to manage with common sense, and where processes have been experienced where even the borrowing authority was not discussed in the municipal council, leading to serious discomfort in the city. We determined our Kütahya mayoral candidate together with common sense, with the full consensus of our organization, and with great belief and trust. In the short-term measurements made afterwards, our candidate caught on in Kütahya politics, to use the colloquial term. The candidate is receiving great social support” 

METRO PROJECTS IN ISTANBUL

Expressing that he finds Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General for Rail Systems and Environmental Protection Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pelin Alpkökin very successful, Özel said:

“In addition to Eskişehir, we have very serious friends within the structure that our mayors from Muğla, Tekirdağ, and Çanakkale are involved in and will guide with their experience, who are extremely educated and competent in local governments, and who contribute to our party's municipalities abroad and find resources. Trabzon Metropolitan Municipality is 9, Trabzon central district is 10. 10 AK Party members from Trabzon could not build 1 light rail system in Trabzon. During this time, Mayor Ekrem built 10 metro lines in Istanbul with 1 person from Trabzon. The whole reason is finding the right person and meeting with the right projects. Ms. Pelin is the most well-known person in the world when we talk about light rail systems. Her signature causes every type of company to feel great confidence in terms of providing funds. We will do our best to ensure that the Kütahya Municipality benefits from all this experience”
