First statement from CHP leader Özgür Özel following the Uşak Municipality operation: 'The period when attacks are most intense'

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel spoke for the first time about the operation carried out against Uşak Municipality at the Socialist International Youth World Congress held in Istanbul.

Özel shared the current situation in Turkey and the pressures they face as a party with the participants.

In his speech, Özgür Özel stated that Turkey is waging a struggle similar to the Lula process in Brazil, saying, "Remember the slanders thrown at Lula, his imprisonment, and the attempts to keep him from running in the election. He succeeded, and he is now the President. If we succeed, we will have written history as a left-wing social democratic party aiming to be a full member of the European Union with a young population of 90 million."

Emphasizing the success they achieved in the local elections, Özel said, "We won 65% of local governments in the last elections. We became the leading party after 47 years. We defeated Erdoğan's party after 25 years, and we are currently the leading party in the polls." He pointed out that the CHP is part of a great change and victory.

''WE ARE AT THE POINT WHERE ATTACKS ARE MOST INTENSE''

Bringing up the pressures and arrests in Turkey in his speech, Özgür Özel said, "19 of our mayors are inside, 450 of our friends are being tried, and 107 are currently under arrest. The hearing in Silivri is currently ongoing. We are under pressure and attack all over Turkey."

Stating that their party remains standing despite the pressures in Turkey, Özgür Özel said, "As the Republican People's Party, we are organizing a congress that can host 250 young people from 150 countries. We are standing tall and continuing our struggle."
