CHP leader Özgür Özel's message to the government: 'This nation will send you away'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel made notable remarks at his party's 39th Ordinary Istanbul Provincial Congress. Giving important messages regarding domestic politics, Özel displayed a determined stance against the government and directed harsh criticisms at President Erdoğan.

"WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED, WE WILL NOT TAKE A STEP BACK"

In his speech, Özel emphasized the need to maintain a strong stance against the government. Stating, "If we use one word less, they will silence this nation; if we take one step back, they will take this country 100 years back; if we bow one centimeter, they will force this nation to its knees," Özel declared that they would not be silenced, would not take a step back, and would never bow down.

The CHP Chairman also expressed that the current government is exerting pressure through the judiciary. "The judicial arms of the AK Party step in where they cannot compete with the CHP," said Özel, adding that their party would continue to stand against this pressure.

REACTION TO "RARE EARTH ELEMENTS"

Making sharp statements on foreign policy as well, Özel claimed that President Erdoğan is trying to derive legitimacy from the Trump administration in America. Stating that rare earth elements in Eskişehir were being used as a bargaining chip by Erdoğan, he said, "We will not let Turkey's future be traded with Trump."

"THIS NATION WILL SEND YOU AWAY"

Özel also referred to Erdoğan's past criticisms. Addressing President Erdoğan, he said, "You used to talk about Bülent Ecevit's age, you used to call Necmettin Erbakan old; now you are at the same age and in the same state."
