CHP leader reveals this for the first time: See what Erdoğan said when Özgür Özel told him, ‘The citizens have many troubles’!

Republican People's Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel was a guest on the YouTube channel of journalist Fatih Altaylı, who is currently held at Silivri Prison.

Özel made striking statements regarding the current agenda. Providing a date for an early election, Özel shared for the first time the details of the meeting held at the CHP Headquarters with AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan after the March 31 Local Elections.

Stating that they view an early election as a certainty, Özel noted the following:

"(Erdoğan) wants to be a candidate again. For this, he wants to change the constitution or something... He tells everyone he sees, 'Let's change the constitution.' He said it to us too. I said, 'I will not make a constitution with someone who does not abide by the constitution.' He offers to change the constitution to everyone he sees by saying something that would be attractive to them from a different angle."

Özel shared the following regarding his meeting with Erdoğan:

"There are problems in Turkey that need to be solved. We are the leading party in Turkey; it cannot go on like this. And when we said these specific problems should be solved—for instance, there were my detention issues. The Gezi Park trial detainees, Kavala, political prisoners, the February 28 detainees, the situation of retirees, the situation of the minimum wage..."

"And we went to discuss many such important issues, saying we can solve these together. We said, 'As the opposition, we will maintain a constructive opposition line; you take steps on these matters, and we will support you. We will still criticize, but let us unite on the right things.' When we said, 'The citizens have many troubles'..., he listened to these and said to us, 'Well, what about the constitution?'"

Regarding Erdoğan's question about the constitution, Özel stated that he replied, "We believe that a constitution can only be made with those who respect the constitution. I told him then as well: 'We cannot make a constitution with someone who does not abide by the constitution.'"

CHP leader Özel continued his remarks as follows:

"If I said I would do it, the 17.5 million voters who voted for us on March 31 would say: 'What are you doing? Is this what we gave you our vote for?' There is a constant desire to change the constitution. Because he wants to pave the way for his candidacy. If that doesn't work, there is a demand to hold it earlier to become a candidate. Our intention is to save the country from many of the problems I just listed by holding an early election before this is left to 2027, perhaps in 2025, or at the latest, within the first 6 months of 2026."
