CHP mayor switches to AKP: 'I am at Erdoğan's command'

The latest news came from the Karkamış district of Gaziantep. This time, a transfer that is not often seen in the political arena has taken place. Mayor Mustafa Güzel resigned from the CHP and joined the AKP.

Güzel, who announced his decision on social media, included striking remarks in his statement. Criticizing the CHP, Güzel stated that he did not receive support from his party. Emphasizing that this was not a personal decision, Güzel announced that he had decided to 'continue his political life under the command of President Erdoğan' for the benefit of his district.

Güzel used the following expressions in his statement;

In the March 31 elections, I was elected as the Mayor of Karkamış with your favor to serve our district. Unfortunately, we could not receive the necessary support from the CHP Headquarters and other Republican People's Party municipalities to serve Karkamış, the historic district of our Gazi City.

In order to serve you, our valued fellow citizens, properly, and to be instrumental in bringing permanent works to our beautiful district of Karkamış, which has unique importance due to its historical value and geographical location, I have decided to continue my political life from now on in the Justice and Development Party under the command of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
