CHP reacts to İzmir operation

CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır has reacted to the issuance of detention warrants for numerous individuals, including former İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer, CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu, and high-level bureaucrats from the Soyer era, as part of an investigation launched into the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality over allegations of "corruption" and "irregularity."

Recalling the statement made by President and AKP Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to journalists on his plane returning from a NATO meeting in the Netherlands, where he said, "It is not just Istanbul, other provinces are also a disaster!", Başarır stated, "The judiciary has become a tool for the government's perception management." Başarır added, "This is the point Turkey has reached! It is a shameful situation!"

Speaking on a Halk TV broadcast, CHP Group Deputy Chair Ali Mahir Başarır stated the following:

"For a long time, we have not been able to wake up to a bright day. One of the perception operations carried out by the government has begun in İzmir. Now it is the turn of our organizations and provincial chairs. These are shameful investigations. Because look, 100 days have passed since the day Ekrem [İmamoğlu] was arrested. There is an operation against our mayors, our council members, our bureaucrats. Despite there being clear inspector reports in these operations, why is this door not knocked on at 6 AM for an incumbent or former AKP bureaucrat or mayor? We presented reports. We filed criminal complaints, and investigations were not even opened. Decisions of non-prosecution were issued. Yes, the judiciary has become a tool for the government's perception management. President Erdoğan says a week ago that this will spread to other places, he gives information before the prosecutor of the files, and then our provincial chair and our mayor are taken into custody; this is the point Turkey has reached! It is a shameful situation!"
