CHP says 'We are upholding the national will' in Sinop: Özgür Özel meets the public! İmamoğlu's message read

A large number of citizens attended the rally, which began at 19:00 on Sunday, August 31. The event, which was the 51st in the series of rallies launched by the CHP following the investigations into the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and the arrest of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, took place at the Sinop Pier Square.

İMAMOĞLU: THERE IS NO LEGAL ISSUE AT HAND

The letter sent by the imprisoned IMM Mayor and CHP presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu from Silivri to the people of Sinop was conveyed by Sinop Provincial Chair Aykut Cem Yalçınkaya.

İmamoğlu's message was summarized as follows:

"I have been held in the Silivri dungeon for over 5 months. The most authorized person in the country called me a 'turnip' and an 'octopus,' but there is still no indictment. If I were being tried without arrest, there is only one thing I would do: return to my duty and to my nation.

There is no legal issue at hand. What is at hand is the political survival issue of a handful of people in power. They are after winning elections and protecting their seats by tying the hands of the opposition. Look at the country where governments that throw their political rivals into dungeons and cast aside law and democracy are in power.

They are trying to neutralize the opposition with all kinds of bullying. Sham elections are held, and certain tyrants never leave their seats for life. Those who desire to make Turkey completely devoid of justice and democracy are only after protecting their own interests.

Let our citizens who pin their hopes on that handful of people know very well that in a Turkey without justice and democracy, there is no prosperity, no wealth, no abundance, and no peace. That is why I insistently say justice first, freedom first, for everyone, everywhere. The survival of our state and the integrity of our nation depend on this."

The highlights from the statements made by Özgür Özel at the rally are as follows:

"On March 21, 10 days before the local elections, we were in this square. We said we would make history; you believed, and you trusted Mayor Metin here. 47 years later, we made our party the number one party. Today, just like on the first day, the Republican People's Party is Turkey's number one party. Thank you for your support."

"We are together in beautiful Sinop, the city of the Republic, where Atatürk took the first step of the Alphabet Revolution, which makes the blue and the green siblings. I greet you all with respect. We came before you with our mayoral candidate Metin Gürbiz. We said, 'Trust our candidate.' We said we would make history in Turkey. 47 years later, we made our party the number one party. I thank you for my brother Barış Karadeniz, who has won the hearts of all fishermen in Turkey by looking after those who earn their bread from the sea, and their grandchildren.

There are a world of problems in the city we know as Turkey's happiest city. Despite the Japanese who fled, we still have a problem called a nuclear power plant. There is not a single person in Sinop who wants a nuclear power plant; there is only one person in Turkey who wants it. In defiance of that one person, we will not let that plant be built!

There is a hospital in Sinop, but no equipment. Children from Sinop are always born in Atakum. A world of patients are wasted on the road to Atakum. Sinop, which was 52nd in the socio-economic development index, has regressed to 81st place in Turkey after 8 years. What is on the agenda in Turkey is that we use the most expensive and slowest internet. In recent days, a young person from Sinop wrote under a post by the Minister, 'Mr. Minister, when my mother closes the door, my internet doesn't reach the room.' We saw that this was said by my brother from Sinop in the provincial report of our friends in Sinop. There is no internet in a world of villages. Internet communication is at its worst point in the city center. But Erdoğan sells us the most expensive internet in the world and the most expensive meat. We opposed the privatization of electricity distribution, and now the biggest problems stem from these companies. There are still places in the villages of Sinop where the water problem has not been solved.

Unfortunately, one of the areas where the biggest problem is experienced is fishing. The nation thinks that while we buy diesel for 50 liras, the boats buy it for 20 liras. The boats buy diesel for 40 liras. The hydroelectric power plants (HES) built have dried up the streams, and fishing has ended there. They constantly conduct missile tests in the Ada area, scaring the fish and disrupting the beds. 183 fishermen from Sinop have disappeared; they cannot go out to sea. Prices multiply from the fisherman to the counter. The captain and the crew have no social security. Under our government, a ministry of maritime affairs will be established in the first cabinet announced, and all these problems will be solved by that ministry.

Sinop is one of the provinces infested by the 'gang of five,' cannibals, and the forty thieves. We heard that 51 thousand trees and 30 thousand decares of rice fields in Boyabat, where Cengiz wants to open a copper mine, will be sacrificed to the mine. You have achieved significant successes so far in the struggle, in resisting, and in protecting your land; you will fight against Cengiz's mine in Boyabat, and we will be by your side.

The average food inflation in all countries in the world is one-fourth of Turkey's. We are exactly 4 times that. Some shameless people come out and say, 'there is a crisis in the world, there is inflation everywhere.' The world has solved inflation; these are the ones who cannot solve it. They say, 'CHP points out problems but doesn't offer solutions.' Last year, the CHP changed its charter. It made September 4-9 its founding week. The CHP is bringing together 550 academics and opinion leaders.

This week, TÜRK-İŞ announced the poverty line as 88 thousand liras. We are not the ones announcing this figure; TÜRK-İŞ is. Let those who have more than 88 thousand liras entering their homes in this square raise their hands... The situation of the nation is bad. The nation is poor, and when Tayyip Bey says he doesn't like the poor, he says, 'He is insulting the nation'... The greatest insult to this nation is to condemn these beautiful people to these salaries; shame on you...

With the currency-protected deposit scheme, he took 60 billion liras from the poor and funneled it to the rich. The big shots are the ones who don't pay taxes, because politics is a matter of preference. Tayyip Bey does not like the poor; he thinks of the rich and looks after their prosperity.

The AK Party has a dark order. There is an order that makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, and makes them needy. There is an order that remembers you at voting time and then turns its back.

Now, can they go out in public? I am calling out from here: I will not let you sit there with 29 percent.
