CHP statement on Burcu Köksal: 'Our municipalities' doors are wide open to everyone'

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has issued a statement on its social media account regarding the remarks made by CHP Afyonkarahisar candidate Burcu Köksal, who had stated, "When I am elected, the municipal doors will be open to every party except the DEM Party." 

The statement included the following:

"The Republican People's Party, as it has throughout our history spanning over a century, continues to place the Republic, democracy, equal citizenship, and populism at the foundation of its politics and governance approach.

In light of the historical responsibility we inherited from our Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, we consider it our greatest duty to embrace all segments of the public without discrimination, to produce solutions to our people's problems, and to move our country forward from where it stands, shoulder to shoulder with our people.

As the descendants of the will that established an independent, equal, and free country against imperialism 100 years ago, our dream and determination to build a country where we live together in wealth and peace, equal and free, are stronger than ever. We are determined to establish a politics that encompasses and embraces all people, regardless of belief, ethnic origin, lifestyle, socioeconomic status, or political views, in the face of polarizing politics that divide Turkey through identities. As we head toward the March 31, 2024, Local Elections, we are resolutely building and growing the Turkey Alliance, led by our Chairman Mr. Özgür Özel, which is the clearest expression of this understanding and these principles.

Guided by populist municipalism and drawing its strength from the will of the people, Republican People's Party municipalities will continue to embrace all segments of society without discrimination, just as they have in the past and present, and will continue to do so in the future. The doors of all the municipalities we currently govern and those we will begin to govern as of March 31, 2024, will be wide open to everyone, and not a single citizen will be deprived of their rights or public services due to their identity.

We invite all our people to meet in the Turkey Alliance on March 31, 2024."
