CHP to directly convey public's problems to ministers during budget negotiations

CHP leader Özel is expected to evaluate the 2025 budget negotiations, which will begin in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly on December 9, during a closed-door meeting with deputies at his party's headquarters today.

Stating that the public shows intense interest in parliamentary work, especially during budget periods, figures from the CHP leadership said, "Due to the problems of the Presidential government system, budget negotiations are also one of the rare places where ministers and deputies can come face to face. We saw during the committee stage of the negotiations that ministers cannot accept criticism and do not feel responsible for accounting to the public. They do not answer when asked questions, and when they hear criticism, they either attack or give brazen responses. However, we will continue to make them hear the problems they do not want to hear and to convey the things the public wants us to communicate."

"WE WILL SAY IT TO THE MINISTERS' FACES"

In this context, party officials, recalling the visits CHP deputies made to 81 provinces last month, said, "We had taken notes and taken footage during those visits. When the budget negotiations begin, we will state the problems people want to express from the parliamentary podium, directly to the ministers' faces. Apart from this, we will talk about how they do not even provide a meal to students while allocating shares for their own security details, planes, and cronies, how they deem a minimum wage-level salary too much for retirees, and the excuses they find for minimum wage earners such as 'If we give you a raise, inflation will rise.'"

SARIBAL'S POST IS A 'DECLARATION'

Some deputies who spoke about the closed-door meeting and criticized the party leadership commented, "Our criticisms regarding the opposition style the leadership has adopted by moving closer to Erdoğan continue. We always voice these in closed-door meetings, but there is no response. So we will see if anyone speaks up this time. But when criticism is not listened to, there is not much point in speaking. When criticisms increase and the leadership is cornered, mayors or provincial chairs are called, and a closed-door meeting is held. Critical voices are then suppressed with the statements shared after those meetings."

Some deputies, stating that the text shared by CHP Party Assembly Member Orhan Sarıbal on his social media account yesterday, which criticized the leadership, was in this sense a "declaration," said, "Especially the involvement of mayors in general politics and their influence on party dynamics draws reaction. The speech Ekrem İmamoğlu gave at the Istanbul Provincial Advisory Board yesterday and his remarks regarding the party congress also drew reactions from some of our friends in this sense. The criticism shared by Mr. Orhan also became a declaration of this in a way."
