CHP wins in Bayrampaşa, İmamoğlu makes a jab at Erdoğan
After a neck-and-neck vote for the Bayrampaşa Mayoralty ended in a stalemate, a draw was held. Following the draw won by the CHP, Ekrem İmamoğlu made a jab at AKP President Erdoğan.
Following the arrest of Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, great tension was experienced at the Extraordinary Municipal Council meeting held to elect a new acting mayor.
The election failed to produce a result throughout the day's voting. In the vote between the candidate of the 18-member Republican People's Party (CHP) group, İbrahim Kahraman, and the candidate of the 15-member People's Alliance, İbrahim Akın, a tie occurred for the fourth time, leading to a draw as required by the bylaws.
CHP WINS THE DRAW
According to the draw, CHP candidate İbrahim Kahraman was elected acting mayor. Thus, the Bayrampaşa Municipality did not change hands despite the arrest of Hasan Mutlu and other changes. The draw symbolizes the CHP's victory in the critical struggle for oversight and authority in the municipality.
A JAB AT ERDOĞAN FROM İMAMOĞLU
Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor and presidential candidate Ekrem İmamoğlu made a notable post on social media following the historic result in Bayrampaşa.
Imamoglu, who has been detained in Silivri Prison since March 23, made a jab at the ruling party by sharing the words, "Do not call it fate, there is a fate above fate," which AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has frequently used in past election processes.
