CHP's candidate selection strategy for local elections revealed! 'Seven units will conduct polls'

Having left the party congress process behind, work for the local elections has gained momentum in the Republican People's Party (CHP).

Attending the CHP Provincial Chairs Istanbul Meeting, Chairman Özgür Özel delivered messages regarding the local elections.

Stating that they will hit the campaign trail and conduct satisfaction surveys, Özel said, "All of our mayors who are in the hearts of the citizens, who have moved their party forward, and who are ahead with the work they have done when elected, are also in our hearts."

Özel continued his remarks as follows:

"Seven units will conduct polls. The results will be evaluated both in an electronic environment and through artificial intelligence. After the polls, if there are female candidates among those who are likely to win, we will favor them. If more than one candidate is likely to win, we will definitely make the decision together with our organization."

In his speech, Özel said, "We will manage a process in which we are obliged to succeed. I have made no promises to anyone other than our three metropolitan candidates (Ekrem İmamoğlu, Mansur Yavaş, Özlem Çerçioğlu) who were announced by Mr. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and whom we also embrace."

EMPHASIS ON PRIMARIES

Emphasizing primaries under the supervision of the organization, Özel stated, "There is no such thing as giving up on primaries. If you say the right method for determining a candidate is a primary, this will happen. We have not taken a step back from primaries, and we will not."

According to information obtained by Cumhuriyet from CHP sources; it is not possible to describe where the primaries will be held with a single criterion. Satisfaction surveys will be conducted in almost all municipalities currently governed by the CHP, and primaries will be held for the majority of municipalities governed by other parties.

For municipal council memberships, a zipper-system primary is planned in districts governed by the CHP that are above a certain population size. This means that odd-numbered spots will be determined by primary, and even-numbered spots will be determined by appointment.
