CHP's Sevil Aydar Yıldız elected as acting mayor to replace Kadir Aydar

Following the arrest and suspension of Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar as part of a corruption investigation, CHP Municipal Council Member Sevil Aydar Yıldız was elected as the acting mayor in the vote held.

Ceyhan Municipal Council members gathered at the Murat Göğebakan Cultural Center for the election of an acting mayor. During the meeting, the CHP group nominated Sevil Aydar Yıldız, while the AKP and MHP groups nominated AKP Council Member Mustafa Kiraz for the position.

As neither candidate received two-thirds of the votes in the first two rounds, the election for acting mayor proceeded to a third round. In the third round, where a simple majority was required, Sevil Aydar Yıldız won the position of Acting Mayor of Ceyhan with 20 votes against 11.

Addressing those waiting in front of the Murat Göğebakan Cultural Center after the election, Yıldız stated that they would continue to serve all the people of Ceyhan.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Ceyhan Mayor Kadir Aydar was arrested on June 3 as part of a corruption investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and was suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior on June 5.
