Claim that Ülkü Ocakları filed a complaint against a citizen criticizing the Sinan Ateş murder: 'An organization that defends freedom of expression...'

While the repercussions of the Sinan Ateş murder continue, a striking claim regarding Ülkü Ocakları has come to the fore.

"THOSE WHO KILL THEIR OWN CHILD..."

According to a report by İsmail Arı from BirGün, a citizen used the phrases "Wherever there is drug trafficking, human trafficking, check-bond collection, cocaine use, rent-seeking, and gangs, it is you" on January 29, 2024. In another social media post made on the same day, January 29, the same citizen recalled the Maraş and Çorum massacres and said, "Wherever there is blood and gore, you are there. Those who kill their own child, Sinan Ateş, cannot have anything to say to us."

10 THOUSAND LIRA COMPENSATION DEMAND

Two days after these posts, Abdulaziz Sekban, the lawyer for Ülkü Ocakları, applied to the Ankara Duty Civil Court of First Instance and demanded 10,000 TL in compensation. In the lawsuit petition submitted to the court by Ülkü Ocakları, it was stated that "they raise individuals for the benefit of society, have gifted names like Aziz Sancar to the Turkish Nation, and ensure that the youth stay away from harmful habits."

"AN ORGANIZATION THAT DEFENDS FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION"

In the lawsuit petition, where it was also claimed that Ülkü Ocakları carries out educational and cultural activities, it was alleged that "attempts are being made to cast a shadow over the activities of Ülkü Ocakları and that their personal rights have been violated." The inclusion of a statement in the lawsuit petition that "Ülkü Ocakları is an organization that defends freedom of expression" also drew attention.

It was requested that a decision be made for the citizen to pay 10,000 TL in non-pecuniary damages to Ülkü Ocakları due to their social media posts.
