In the city of Damascus, Syria, an explosion occurred at the Mar Elias Church in the Duwayla district, resulting in numerous deaths and significant material damage to the church. CHP Chairman Özgür Özel condemned the attack, stating, "It is a crime against humanity."
An explosion of undetermined cause occurred at the Mar Elias Church located in the Duwayla district in the east of Damascus. While the explosion caused major material damage to the church, many people lost their lives.
Sharing a post about the attack on his social media account, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel used the following expressions:
"I condemn the attack targeting civilians at the Mar Elias Church in Syria.
Attacks on civilian settlements, places of worship, and innocent people are crimes against humanity.
The instability in Syria must end as soon as possible, and a democratic order must be established where people of all identities can live freely and safely."
