CHP Presidential Candidate and elected Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Ekrem İmamoğlu published a message following the passing of Metin Sözen.
In the statement released through the Presidential Candidate Office account, which is the official account opened for his election campaign, İmamoğlu stated the following:
"I learned with great sadness of the passing of Prof. Dr. Metin Sözen, who pioneered the establishment of the Union of Historical Towns and the ÇEKÜL Foundation and provided great services in the fields of architecture, art history, and the protection of our cultural heritage.
Our esteemed professor was a great asset who, starting from the 1970s, worked in cooperation with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality to protect the regions that are now under protection as protected sites and serve as a mirror to Istanbul's historical identity.
I offer my gratitude on behalf of my city and our history for the services he rendered to Istanbul.
I pray for God's mercy upon him and extend my condolences to his loved ones."
