Congratulatory message from Özgür Özel to Tufan Erhürman, who won the elections in the TRNC

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel congratulated Republican Turkish Party (CTP) leader Tufan Erhürman, who emerged victorious in the presidential election held in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). In a post shared on social media, Özel emphasized that the victory achieved by Erhürman is not only that of a candidate but also a testament to the Turkish Cypriot people's commitment to their own national will.

ERHÜRMAN'S VICTORY

According to data released by the TRNC Supreme Election Board, Tufan Erhürman won the election with 62.80 percent of the vote after 735 out of 777 ballot boxes were opened. Incumbent President Ersin Tatar remained at 35.77 percent. While Erhürman's victory caused a great stir on social media, Özgür Özel also congratulated him on this success.

Özgür Özel stated the following in his social media post: "In this election, the Turkish Cypriot people have not only chosen Mr. Erhürman, but have also given their answer to the mentality that interferes with TRNC democracy and national will from the outside for its own interests." With this statement, Özel also gave a strong reaction to the external interventions made during the election process.

CRITICISM TOWARD OUTSIDE ACTORS AND A DETERMINED MESSAGE

Özel also issued a harsh criticism, stating: "Those in Ankara who openly disregard not only our country's foreign policy etiquette but also the law, and who resort to all kinds of black propaganda to ensure the victory of the candidate they support, and who even at this hour express their intolerance toward the election results on social media, have also correctly understood the message of the Turkish Cypriots."
