Controversial remarks about Özgür Özel from Yeni Şafak columnist: He deleted his post
The controversial social media post by Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül regarding the physical attack on CHP Chairman Özgür Özel as he left a funeral ceremony drew criticism from both CHP and AKP supporters.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel attended the funeral ceremony held at the Atatürk Cultural Center for Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Sırrı Süreyya Önder, who passed away yesterday. While the physical assault that occurred as he left the ceremony sparked widespread outrage, a social media post regarding the incident overshadowed the event itself.
CONTROVERSIAL REMARKS
Yeni Şafak columnist İbrahim Karagül quoted the footage of the attack on his social media account and stated, "This man is constantly getting beaten up somewhere. Either they break his leg or they slap him in the face. Sometimes one feels like saying he deserves these things." These remarks by Karagül quickly drew significant backlash on social media.
The criticism did not come only from CHP members; many users who identify as AKP supporters also harshly condemned Karagül's words. Following the intense reaction, Karagül was forced to delete his post.
REVEALED TO HAVE A CRIMINAL RECORD
Meanwhile, it has emerged that Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked Özgür Özel, previously had a criminal record for murder.
