Court rules for 300 thousand TL compensation

A verdict has been reached in the non-pecuniary damages lawsuit filed against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to his statements regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In the case heard at the Ankara 32nd Civil Court of First Instance, the court ordered Özel to pay 300 thousand TL in non-pecuniary damages.

The lawsuit was filed due to remarks made by Özgür Özel during a speech at the CHP Headquarters on July 5, 2025.

STATEMENT FROM ERDOĞAN'S LAWYER

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's lawyer, Hüseyin Aydın, announced the court's decision in a post on his social media account.

In his statement, Aydın noted that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had used "inappropriate expressions" and made "unjust accusations" against President Erdoğan in his speech, and stated that a non-pecuniary damages lawsuit was filed at the Ankara 32nd Civil Court of First Instance for this reason.

Hüseyin Aydın included the following statements in his post:

"In the lawsuit we filed at the Ankara 32nd Civil Court of First Instance against CHP Chairman Özgür Özel due to his inappropriate expressions and unjust accusations targeting our President in his speech at the CHP Headquarters on 05.07.2025, the Court has ordered 300 thousand TL in non-pecuniary damages."

THE BASIS OF THE LAWSUIT WAS ÖZEL'S SPEECH

It was learned that the process subject to the case file involved the expressions used by Özgür Özel in his speech at the CHP Headquarters. As a result of its evaluation, the court accepted the request for non-pecuniary damages and ruled for a compensation of 300 thousand TL.
