Crisis grows in CHP: Motion for permanent expulsion of a deputy

The Republican People's Party (CHP) leadership has made a notable decision regarding Gaziantep Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen. Following Öztürkmen's statement that "Absolute nullity is a matter for the judiciary. Whatever the judiciary decides must be respected," CHP Spokesperson Zeynel Emre announced that the deputy would be referred to the disciplinary board with a request for permanent expulsion.

Crisis grows in CHP: Motion for permanent expulsion of a deputy

The Republican People's Party (CHP) Central Executive Committee (MYK) met under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel.

Following the meeting, CHP Spokesperson Zeynel Emre made statements regarding the agenda at the party headquarters.

"THE NULLITY DEBATE HAS NO PLACE IN LAW"

Addressing the "absolute nullity" debates in his statement, Emre used harsh language regarding the issue.

Zeynel Emre stated, "For some time now, there has been a nonsensical nullity debate that has no place in law."

Arguing that the constitutional powers of the Supreme Election Council (YSK) are being brought into question, Emre said, "Beyond the general practices of the Supreme Election Council to date, there is a mindset that talks about usurping the constitutional authority of the Supreme Election Council and constantly wants to stir up trouble within the party, even though it was rejected by the court of first instance."

"THE DELEGATES EXPRESSED A DIFFERENT WILL"

Evaluating the CHP congress held in 2023, Emre reminded that he served as the Deputy Chairman responsible for Election and Legal Affairs at that time.

In his statement regarding the party convention process, he said, "I said, 'Vote for Mr. Kılıçdaroğlu one last time, and we will evaluate it after the local elections.' But the delegates thought differently; the delegates showed their will in another direction. That is what democracy is."

"DO NOT GIVE CREDENCE TO THOSE WHO WANT TO STIR UP THE PARTY"

Zeynel Emre also made a statement regarding the debates conducted through social media and television programs.

Emre stated, "Do not give credence to anyone who constantly spreads false news from morning to night, whether on social media or television programs, in order to stir up our party."

Stating that the party leadership derives its authority from the delegates, Emre said, "We manage our party with an understanding that shows all kinds of tolerance. However, the CHP leadership has received its authority from the party's esteemed delegates. Authority and responsibility are inseparable."

DISCIPLINARY PROCESS FOR HASAN ÖZTÜRKMEN

Touching upon the statements of Gaziantep Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen, Emre said that the expressions in question were found unacceptable by the party leadership.

Zeynel Emre said, "Our Gaziantep Deputy Hasan Öztürkmen's normalization of nullity and his discussion of such a conspiracy as if it were possible is, from our perspective, a reference to a coup attempt against our party. This cannot be legitimized in any way."

"HE WILL BE REFERRED TO DISCIPLINARY ACTION WITH A REQUEST FOR PERMANENT EXPULSION"

Explaining the decision taken by the CHP leadership, Emre announced that Hasan Öztürkmen would be referred to the disciplinary process.

In his statement, Emre said, "He is our deputy; we discussed this in the Central Executive Board. We will bring it to the agenda of the Party Assembly. The Party Assembly will decide on his referral to the disciplinary board with a request for permanent expulsion at its first meeting."
