Critical countdown in CHP: Who will join the new party?

While discussions about a new party, brought to the agenda following the nullity decision in the CHP, continue, eyes in the party lobbies have turned to the judicial recess starting on July 20. Although different assessments are being made within the party, it is stated that many figures agree that a new political formation should not be pursued before all legal processes are completed.

Sources close to the party leadership convey that the option of a new party is seen at this stage not as a preference, but as an alternative to be evaluated only if forced. For this reason, it is stated that uncertainties regarding legal processes are expected to be largely clarified with the start of the judicial recess.

JULY 20 IS AWAITED

Key figures in the party's elected leadership explain the main reason for the wait through the assessments made by Chairman Özgür Özel. Recalling Özel's words, "No one is eager to form a new party," the aides state that the primary priority is to continue the struggle under the CHP umbrella.

In the same assessments, it is noted that the atmosphere of hopelessness created in society is being highlighted, and that due to operations targeting mayors and the CHP, voters are falling into the thought that "they are being left without options, without leaders, and without a party."

The aides state that the possibility of a new party is being kept on the agenda for this reason, emphasizing that it must be seen that legal processes have completely ended.

Figures close to the party leadership remind that the CHP administration came to office through democratic elections and that four party congresses have been held to date. Stating that neighborhood, district, and provincial congresses have been completed, the aides argue that the party administration is being interfered with by the judiciary after all these processes.

The same sources express that forming a new party would be a much more difficult process under current conditions, and that leaving the CHP is not an emotionally easy decision.

While the aides convey that despite this, the option of a new party could be evaluated if it becomes necessary for the country's interests, they express that questions are expected to largely disappear after July 20, and that the few days of waiting are being maintained to avoid future regrets.

MASS DEFECTION OPTION STANDS OUT

Assessments regarding the method of transition for deputies in the event a new party is formed are also continuing. In party lobbies, the decision on whether transitions will be carried out en masse or spread over time is expected to become clear in the coming days.

In circles close to Özgür Özel, it is stated that the prevailing view is that if a decision for a new party is made, a mass transition should take place next week without delay.

COULD SET OUT WITH 80 DEPUTIES

According to the report by Sarp Sağkal from the Cumhuriyet newspaper, some party aides assess that the planned new political formation could begin operations with approximately 80 deputies.

In the same assessments, it is stated that with the establishment of the new party, it would assume the role of the main opposition in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) and strongly assert its claim to power.

The aides state that the goal is for not only deputies but also party organizations to participate strongly in the new formation.

FIELD WORK PLANNED TO CONTINUE

Party sources convey that Özgür Özel continues to be on the streets, in markets, and meeting with citizens, and state that if a new party is formed, this field work will continue uninterrupted.

Accordingly, it is stated that Özel will continue his provincial visits, continue his meetings with citizens, and that the promotion process for the new party will be carried out simultaneously.

PROCESS MAY EXTEND TO THE BEGINNING OF AUGUST

On the other hand, in line with the statements made by Özgür Özel recently, it is stated that all options for the CHP are expected to be exhausted before a decision for a new party is made.
