Critical 'Hatay' development in CHP! Will Lütfü Savaş withdraw his candidacy?
The Party Assembly (PM) meeting of the Republican People's Party (CHP), where candidates for some districts in Istanbul and for Ankara's Çankaya district were to be determined, has been postponed. CHP sources stated that primary elections will be held in some locations over the weekend, and a survey will be conducted for Hatay.
As the local elections approach, political parties continue to announce their mayoral candidates.
In the CHP, where crises have occurred during the candidate selection process, mayoral candidates for Çankaya in Ankara and some districts in Istanbul have not yet been finalized. On the other hand, reactions to the nomination of Lütfü Savaş in Hatay continue.
The meeting of the CHP Party Assembly, which was preparing to convene to determine mayoral candidates, has been postponed to Monday.
According to a report by Sarp Sağkal from Cumhuriyet, party officials stated that the districts in Istanbul will be completed and the candidate for Çankaya in Ankara will be determined, adding, “We need a little more time for evaluations in very critical places. We are working meticulously for each of our candidates. For this reason, it will be more appropriate to make the candidate announcement collectively on Monday.” It was also reported that the CHP might hold another party assembly meeting after Monday to determine candidates.
It is said that another reason for the postponement of the meetings is the ongoing debate over Hatay Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Lütfü Savaş. Despite Savaş's recent statement that he will not withdraw his candidacy, a comprehensive new survey is expected to be conducted in the region over the weekend.
On the other hand, CHP officials stated, “There is no situation such as not nominating candidates in some districts for the sake of a consensus with the DEM Party.”
