Critical Istanbul candidate statement from DEM Party! Did they ask CHP for 3 districts?

As the local elections approach, negotiations for alliances and cooperation between political parties continue.

Following the 'candidacy' move by Başak Demirtaş, the wife of Selahattin Demirtaş, there has been much speculation about whether the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) will field a candidate in Istanbul, and a striking claim has been made.

According to the claim, the DEM Party asked the CHP for the Adalar and Esenyurt districts in Istanbul and the Akdeniz district in Mersin. DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan responded to the claim in question.

Appearing as a guest on the program "Sözüm Var" broadcast on Halk TV, Doğan stated that the party's Central Executive Board will meet on February 3 and that one of the most critical meetings will be held, adding, "Istanbul is a special place for us too. We are being very meticulous." Doğan also denied the claims that the Esenyurt and Adalar municipalities in Istanbul and the Akdeniz municipality in Mersin were requested from the CHP.

"Our approach is not like that. It is not a matter of 'let us take this district, let us give that district.' Our approach is how we can ensure the broadest social consensus. How we can carry our understanding of local democracy there while managing cities," said Doğan, who continued with the following statements:

"We did not make such a statement. Of course, there will be some collaborations, alliances of strength, and coming together. As the Party Spokesperson, I do not have such information. Our MYK members do not have such information. Is there a similar statement made by the CHP? No."

Regarding the negotiations with the CHP, Doğan assessed, "I would like to say that everything other than the statements made by our relevant boards regarding what is discussed with the CHP is speculative. Since there is no clear information yet on whether a consensus has been reached or not, there is nothing to share with the public."

Doğan stated that the party's Central Executive Board will meet on February 3 and said, "Istanbul is a special place for us too. We are being very meticulous."

Stating that the meeting on February 3 will be one of the most critical Central Executive Board meetings, Doğan noted the following:

"On the same day or the next day, depending on the agenda of the MYK and the course of events, it will become clear what decision our city consensus commission has reached regarding the CHP and other political parties, and whether decisions have been made to form alliances of strength."
