Critical meeting following the cancellation of CHP district congresses: A decision could be reached today!

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has filed an appeal with the Supreme Election Council (YSK) following the consecutive cancellations of its district congresses in Istanbul.

On September 2, the Istanbul 45th Civil Court of First Instance cancelled the CHP's Istanbul congress, which was scheduled for October 8, 2023, and removed the incumbent Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik and his administration from office. The court also ordered a halt to the congress process.

SUPREME ELECTION COUNCIL CONVENES TODAY

Based on the court's ruling, district election boards in Istanbul subsequently issued injunctions against holding CHP congresses in the Ataşehir, Esenyurt, Sarıyer, Bakırköy, and Başakşehir districts.

These decisions were appealed by the CHP to the YSK. The Supreme Election Council will convene today at 14:30 to deliberate on the CHP's appeal.

DECISION EXPECTED FROM YSK TODAY

YSK President Ahmet Yener made statements regarding the matter, announcing that the Supreme Election Council would examine the appeals filed against the cancellation of certain CHP district congresses in Istanbul.

Yener stated that whether a decision will be reached depends on the course of the meeting. During today's meeting, it will be decided whether the process for the CHP's 39th Ordinary Congress in Istanbul will continue.
