Critical Party Assembly session begins in CHP following resignations
An extraordinary meeting is being held in the Republican People's Party (CHP) following the mass resignation of Party Assembly members.
Recent developments within the CHP have stirred the political agenda. With the mass resignation of 28 Party Assembly (PM) members known for their proximity to elected Chairman Özgür Özel, the number of members in the 57-member PM has fallen below 40. This situation has brought about discussions regarding whether a new convention call may be necessary in accordance with the party's bylaws.
Following the resignations, the Party Assembly convened under the chairmanship of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was appointed as interim chairman by court order. The decision of members supporting Özgür Özel to withdraw from the PM prior to the meeting revealed that the crisis within the party is deepening.
CONVENTION DEBATE AND UNCERTAINTY IN THE PARTY
Due to the reduction in the Party Assembly, the Özel camp is of the opinion that the process for a convention must be initiated in line with the CHP Bylaws. This disagreement within the party makes it necessary to determine a new roadmap for the CHP.
While the tension in the party continues, CHP's acting Party Spokesperson Müslim Sarı announced that he would share the decisions and evaluations made at the Party Assembly meeting with the public. Sarı stated, "I will hold a press conference at the CHP Headquarters today at 16:00 regarding the evaluations made at our Republican People's Party Assembly meeting. You can follow our press conference and statements live via our social media accounts."
