Critical talks have begun: The proposal concerning millions of retirees is in committee!
The legislative proposal, which includes increasing the lowest pension to 23,552 Turkish Lira, has begun to be discussed in the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee.
The TBMM Planning and Budget Committee, convened under the chairmanship of AKP Samsun Deputy Mehmet Muş, has begun discussions on the Draft Law on Amendments to Certain Laws and Decree-Laws, which includes increasing the lowest pension to 23,552 Turkish Lira and regulations regarding the economy.
AKP Samsun Deputy Ersan Aksu, one of the sponsors of the proposal, gave a presentation on the regulation. Claiming that they have taken measures to protect all segments of society, Aksu stated, "With this regulation, which closely concerns our retirees and beneficiaries, we are increasing the current lowest monthly payment amount of 20,000 Turkish Lira to 23,552 Turkish Lira, taking into account the 17.76 percent inflation rate announced by TUIK for the first 6 months of 2026. The lowest pension, which was 40 dollars in 2022, is rising to 500 dollars with this regulation. This picture shows that there has been a real increase of exactly 5.5 times since 2022, adjusted for inflation, and a 12.5-fold increase in dollar terms. Approximately 5.1 million of our retirees will benefit directly from this regulation."
Discussions on the draft law are ongoing.
