Criticism of the Minister of Culture and Tourism Regarding the Foundations Archive

CHP Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has leveled harsh criticisms at Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Nuri Ersoy.

Yavuzyılmaz criticized the transfer of the Foundations Archive, located in Ulus, Ankara, which houses the deeds of 50 thousand foundations as well as thousand-year-old documents, to the Yunus Emre Foundation.

Yavuzyılmaz stated that this transfer caused the expert officials responsible for the preservation and research of the archive to leave the building. Claiming that the Yunus Emre Foundation has been associated with fake invoice corruption in the past, Yavuzyılmaz argued that this situation jeopardizes the security of the archive.

The Foundations Archive is known as an institution of great importance for Turkey's cultural heritage. Yavuzyılmaz called for the return of expert officials to protect the archive and for the cancellation of the allocation made to the foundation. He stated that otherwise, the government would be held responsible if the archive were to be damaged.

These criticisms have brought the debates regarding the protection and management of cultural heritage in Turkey back to the agenda. No official statement has been made by the Ministry yet.

There have been allegations in recent days that Minister Ersoy will be dismissed from his post. Ersoy is being held responsible for the deaths of 78 people in a hotel fire in Kartalkaya.
