Davutoğlu calls on the government: Implement the Can Atalay decision immediately

Speaking at the joint group meeting of the Felicity Party and the Future Party, Future Party leader Ahmet Davutoğlu issued a call to the government amidst discussions of political softening.

"DO NOT APPLY MAKEUP TO THE CONSTITUTION"

Stating "Let us not apply makeup to the Constitution," Davutoğlu said, "Bring it, let us discuss everything about the constitution. But if you bring a constitutional amendment to change the agenda or to stall, we will first ask this: well, are you complying with the constitution you currently have? If the issue is to use the constitution to cover up poverty and the cries of retirees, we will not fall for this game." 

Davutoğlu, stating that the release of Can Atalay, who remains imprisoned despite decisions by the Constitutional Court (AYM) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), is an opportunity for 'political softening,' said the following:

I am calling out to the government from here; if it is truly a softening, implement the decision regarding Can Atalay immediately. There are many issues on which I do not agree with Can Atalay, but there is one thing we agree on: Can Atalay came to this Parliament through the free choice of the national will.

'DO NOT SOFTEN TOWARDS MURDERERS'

On the other hand, Davutoğlu also reacted to the fact that the testimony of Ayşe Ateş, the wife of Sinan Ateş, was not included in the indictment for his murder, saying, "Soften towards the oppressed, not the murderers. An indictment is released. While this indictment is being prepared, testimony is taken from the victim's wife. The only person who knows a person's entire inner world is their spouse. The wife makes certain statements, she likely says things that Sinan Ateş did not tell anyone else, but the wife's testimony is not in the indictment."
