Davutoğlu reacts to US ambassador's remarks: Calls for a 'ban on entry to Turkey'

Future Party Chairman Ahmet Davutoğlu, in a statement on his social media account, voiced his criticism regarding the remarks made by US Ambassador to Tel Aviv Mike Huckabee concerning the region Israel claims to cover from the Nile to the Euphrates. Stating that he does not view Huckabee's expression that "Israel has a right to the land from the Nile to the Euphrates by God's promise, and it would not be a problem if they took it all" as a slip of the tongue, Davutoğlu argued that an expansionist mentality lies behind it.

'THIS IS NOT A GAFFE'

In his statement, Davutoğlu used the following expressions: "The words of Christian Zionist pastor Huckabee, who holds the title of US Ambassador to Israel, that 'Israel has a right to the land from the Nile to the Euphrates by God's promise, and it would not be a problem if they took it all'... This is not a gaffe. This is a declaration of mentality. This is an open declaration of an expansionist doctrine."

Emphasizing that ambassadors represent not only their own views but their states, Davutoğlu said that for this reason, the statement made also concerns US President Donald Trump. Criticizing the White House's silence, Davutoğlu stated that this stance is not diplomatic behavior, but on the contrary, it means a tacit approval of the thoughts in question.

Expressing that such statements could prepare a psychological ground for an imperialist Zionist strategy, Davutoğlu said, "First, it is called 'promised land,' then borders are opened to discussion. Silence paves the way for occupation. If there is no response, tomorrow such expressions will turn into actions."

The Future Party leader emphasized that the Parliament should take a joint and firm stance on the issue in its first session. He pointed out the importance of sending a clear message to both the US and Israel with the participation of all political parties. He also stated that the US Ambassador to Ankara should be summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and an official explanation should be demanded from the US administration. Davutoğlu also expressed that it is essential for President Erdoğan to write a direct letter to Trump requesting that necessary measures be taken regarding the ambassador in question.

Calling on regional countries to act in cooperation, Davutoğlu demanded that Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Saudi Arabia initiate a joint initiative through their ambassadors in Washington. Davutoğlu also stated that the leaders of Islamic countries should write a letter to US President Trump, declaring that they will not attend so-called peace meetings as long as this ambassador remains in the region.

PROPOSAL TO IMPOSE AN ENTRY BAN

At the end of his reaction, Ahmet Davutoğlu proposed that Turkey initiate legal proceedings against such statements and impose an entry ban on the ambassador in question.
